Taper Runs and New Shoes

Okay, so I have two questions in one post. I started Hal Higdon's Novice 2 training plan a week late, but I'm somehow finishing the plan a week early and running my 12 miles training run two weeks before the half instead of one week before the half. Should I just repeat my taper week twice or are there other suggestions? Also, I really want to get new shoes because it's time and there's some good sales going on, but if I buy new shoes should I wait to use them until after the half? Other than having some IT Band stiffness and sore calves at the end of my long runs, my shoes aren't really bothering me now and my instinct is telling me that I should hold off on wearing new shoes until after the half marathon. My half marathon is on the 24th of February.

Any tips would be appreciated! Thanks!

Keep your 12 mi run as is and if you feel the need for a long run the week before your half do an easy 8 miler.

if you are buying the same shoe you should be able to get them now (next couple of days) and still be good for your race. I usually do not have to break in my running shoes. I stay in the same shoe.

Thanks for the tips! I think I should be okay to run the 13.1 even if I have a two-week break in there, but I don't want to slack off or hurt my training at all because I'm somehow a week ahead.

I'm using the same training plan as you and am also a week ahead. I'm doing my 12 mile run tomorrow and my half is on Feb. 23. I'm going to do 7 miles the week before. Good luck on your half! Oh, I would think 2 weeks is plenty of time to break in your new shoes.
