Hey everyone!
I know that one of the reasons i've gained so much weight in college is because of alcohol. yes, i know it's not mandatory to drink in college but i do. between football games, and school dances it seems like every event has a drink to go along with it! i'm just wondering if anyone has any healthy drink ideas or suggestions for how they balance out drinking and maintaining their healthy lifestyle.
i really appreciate any advice, tips or just stories!

I reduced my drinking to weekend only. I tend to eat more before going to a game or something so I don't tend to drink as much alcohol.
I cannot drink beer since I cannot handle bubbles that has helped me. Maybe try light beers or light colored ones since those have less calories.
Another tip is to hold one drink and nurse it through out the night so people don't keep giving you more0 -
I just only allow myself to drink when on the weekends and only on the weekend days that I work out, I make myself work off my alcohol calories. I preplan how many drinks I will have and limit myself to that. Enjoy what I can have and stay healthy in that respect.0

I actually struggle with this a lot myself. I enjoy the taste of most drinks so it's not something I can or even want to give up; however, I have limited the amount of times in which I go out and indulge. I used to go out quite a bit (definitely where a good chunk of my weight gain came from), but over the past few months I have tried to limit it to weekends and maybe a drink during the week if it's a special occasion like a friend's birthday or I'm celebrating being finished with big exam or paper. So that's one thing you can do, also if you're going out only take enough cash for a certain number of drinks that way you won't be tempted to buy more because you can't. It'll save you calories and money!
As for low-cal drinks I haven't really found a lot of good options when I'm going out, but if I'm drinking at the house I've started always mixing my drinks with crystal light as opposed to soda or juice because the calorie count is way lower and it doesn't have all of the extra sugar. That's helped quite a bit. Also, if you're a beer drinker, I recently discovered Budweiser Select... it's only 55 calories a bottle and actually tastes good. I was pleasantly surprised. Not a lot of bars in my area have it, but if I'm drinking at home it's a great option.
Overall it's just about portion control and budgeting for the calories through extra exercise either that day or another day. Just be sure not to limit yourself too much or you'll end up going overboard eventually.0 -
i definitely think portion control is my biggest issue. when you're around friends it makes me mindlessly drink. recently i've been making a mixed drink using fresca, crystal light raspberry ice, vodka and ice. it is so good! and i feel like it's somewhat healthy haha0

My biggest advice is drink liquor with a diet soda or low cal juice. Beer and wine can be a lot of extra calories. Most bars have diet sodas if you ask! Also on my diet, I only drink weekends and I made a rule for myself that if I want to drink, I have to exercise that day. That way you have some room for extra calories if you just burned some. hope that helps!0

The start of this college year i started drinking alot more than i have before. I am not able to loose any weight right now because of the drinking of beer. The biggest thing i want to do is cut out all the beer, liqour, and cokes. The mios help alot with wanting something sweet to drink.0

Light beer and zero-calorie mixers. Or juice, juice is okay. I try to make most of my drinks with diet soda so it's only the alcohol that costs me calories.
Bud Light Platinum is really calorie-effective for its strength. It's 137 calories and 6% alcohol (as opposed to regular Bud Light which is 110 calories but only 4.2% alcohol.) Also it doesn't taste like piss.
I know there are beers out there now that are less than 100 calories, but I'm pretty sure they're also about 3% alcohol so it's hard to get drunk on them. But if you're looking for something to just hold and drink while you're socializing I guess they work.
I recently discovered Firefly skinny sweet tea vodka. Since I found it, all of my friends - even the guys - have been buying it. It's so delicious you could drink a cup of it straight. It's only 60 proof but it's 72 calories in a shot. I also keep around a light iced tea mix (4c half and half, 10 calories a serving) so I mix those two and it is awesome!0
