Waist-UP muscle

Group, I've been focusing on losing weight by eating less calories and cardio exercises. But as I approach my goal...I'm ready to start building muscle (abs, chest, shoulders, biceps, etc....) WAIST UP!

Is there a good exercise video (dvd) out there that will help me achieve this without buying a bunch of equipment? I'm ok buying a few small things but I don't want to invest in a gym!

Is "Insanity" or "P90x" something I should be looking into?

Thanks for your help in advance

I tried insanity and I didn't like it. It is too hard on my knees. I do a lot of weights, but low impact. Are you opposed to a woman instructor or looking for a male instructor? I would suggest going to collagevideo.com. They sell thousands of DVDs and have clips of every video, the level (ie - beginner, advanced), and I think you can sort by the type of video (ie - cardio, strength). I think finding an instuctor you like is KEY. I am doing a lot of Cathe Freidrich and using her Low Impact Series. Check out Afterburn (my fave) and Total body trisets. They are both great for weight training. I also love her dvd's because they offer various premixes, while the whole workout may be 60 minutes, you can do a premix that may be 20, 30, or 40 minutes. This option works really well for me. Good luck!

My 16 year old son uses P90X to bulk up for football.... He got ripped and added a TON of muscle both times he did it! (Mentor football team is ranked 7th in Ohio and 47th in the NATION and coach tells them to do P90X in the off season to bulk....) It does work!

Thanks to both of you! P90x sounds awesome but I'm betting it may just kill me. I will check out all your ideas and see what works.

Insanity is not going to help you build muscle, it is mostly cardio. Shaun T did not get his body by doing his workouts alone. Have you considered Les Mills Pump? I have heard great things about that one!

I think you'd be surprised what YOU can do!!! Challenge yourself..... Plus, they do have modifications on all the exercises. I surprised myself by how much Jillian Michales I could do...... I'll bet you can too!

Ok, I will research all these ideas. I'm going to rule out Insanity because I'm looking or strength training. I just don't want to drop $120 plus on P90X unless I'm sure (plus I have to get a pull up bar, resistance bands, some weights)

Thanks for all the input I've received up to this point.

One more thing I forgot to mention....if you don't like something you buy from collage video..you can return it. Even if it has been opened. Watch some videos and see what you think will work for you. Instructor is key for me.

I would suggest "micoach" from adidas It has app for the phone and their webpage offers all sorts of programs for any fitness goal. I use it for my strength training as well as for improving my running
