Frustrated - how do you cope?

I've been fighting with my PCOS for a very long time now and have been steadily gaining weight for over 10 years.

I'm so frustrated because I have been doing "everything right" according to doctors and nutritionists and personal trainers. I have spent thousands of dollars on getting fit and healthy etc and continue to gain weight. My doctors refuse to put me on medication such as metaformin and I feel so angry and frustrated.

how are you ladies coping? I'm at my wits end...

thanks in advance

I actually have a cousin that has seen two different doctors because she has the symptoms of PCOS as me, plus more. Both of her doctors have refused to recognize PCOS as a condition and will not let her go see a specialist. I can understand your frustration some. I cannot understand it all though. I take metformin, and even though it helps me maintain my weight, I'm not sure it helps me with weight loss.

I've only be (back) on here for a couple of weeks now but adding other PCOS friends helps. I check my MFP wall every day like it is facebook. It gets addicting, and keeps you more accountable.

I finally realize the other day that I am never going to be a stick model, and I may never lose any more weight, but that doesn't mean that I need to stop trying to become healthy. I have came to the conclusion that I will always need to eat right and exercise each day for the rest of my life because I am different. Once I realized that, I havent had much trouble. Other than Valentine's day, I've been under my calorie count and worked out each day.

Another positive to this is that if you get into the habit now of being healthy, you will have a jump start on others. My best friends mom use to be a stick. Like 100 pounds soaking wet. She never had to work out or eat right growing up. Now she is in her 50's and cannot get into the habit of taking care of herself. She is now over 300 pounds. I hope that I will always work out and eat right and that some day I will be down to my goal weight and be able to keep it off because I am already in the habit of being healthy.

I dont know.... I hope this helps some. Add me as a friend if you'd like. Stay positive and just focus on health and not weight!

I just want to say (((hugs))) and I am with you. It has been a very frustrating ride for me as well. I get tired of eating meat- (aka high protein) and end up with my face in sugar when I get depressed that nothing seems to be changing in the right direction.
I personally am I trying to go back to being a vegetarian. I felt much better on that type of meal plan.
My doctor also won't put me on metformin. He only wants me to use HBC which makes me a nut case. I am trying to use a magnesium oil skin supplement in the evenings to help with PMS symptoms and headahces. When I am faithful to that regimen it makes my periods less painful, but I haven't gotten far in the weight loss realm.

You aren't alone I guess it what I wanted to say. I hope you (we) can find something that works.

I feel your frustration. The best results I have had have been with alternative practitioners: naturopaths (who understand hormones), acupuncturists, herbalists. The things they've given me and helped me with have made a huge difference. It's worth the extra money.

    Thanks Ladies...

i'm slowly trying to wrap my head around the fact that I will never be the weight I wish I could be - my body will never adapt to that- the support you have shown is amazing and greatly appreciated.
