Let's try this again

Today I went for my annual gyn visit and I've decided to try to cooperate this time. First, in my defense let me say not having medical insurance is a b****. After my annual last year, I wasn't able to get any help with sorting out my PCOS issues.
For those who don't know, I constantly bleed. I have 2 or 3 days max without bleeding every so often. Along with bleeding, I have really bad pelvic pain and I just want to scream! This has been happening for about a year and a half.
Anyway, at my visit today the doctor did the normal pap and scheduled me for a pelvic ultrasound. I did that last year, so its not a big deal. Instead of BCP's I'm going to try Depo-Provera (shot). Hopefully this will HELP with the bleeding because I've became anemic.
I'm also starting the slow release Metformin. I stopped taking it last year because of the God Awful stomach side effects. I pray this will be gentle on my digestive system.
I realize that if I want to control this PCOS, I have to change my diet and get off my a** and exercise so that my glucose levels will stay within normal range.
We'll see how it goes.....

That's horrible! Would Planned Parenthood or a similar women's clinic with a sliding pay scale be able to help you? Is the constant bleeding PCOS? For most of us it is the total absence of periods. Regardless, I hope you get some relief and soon! Keep us posted!0

Good luck! It's all about trial and error. When I wanted off the pill and then found out about PCOS, I was told Depo was a bad idea for me because of my high androgen levels- it could make acne and things worse. But, it's a bit more common with PCOS to have fewer periods, not more! So clearly your hormones are abnormal in a different way than mine. Have you had your hormones tested? Even though you don't have insurance, it's probably worth it if you haven't done it yet, because it could really help you and your doctor know which treatments are going to work.
Hopefully the Depo will really help you out! Also, diet and exercise will always help no matter what, and we're here to support you!0 -
i wish you all the luck, am sure that there are more than a couple of ladies on here that don't have the insurance to cover some of the treatments but like some one else suggested is there a clinic that you can go to that will do a sliding scale and allow you to pay in payments? That is what I ended up having to do to get everything under control
Luckily after losing some weight i got my diabetes in control and now it's in remission got my regular periods back to so that was a huge plus, all with diet and exercise it can be done we just need to motivate ourselves that we can do it we are all here for you cheering you on
i hope that the depo helps you keep is posted and good luck0 -
My PCOS fluctualtes between no cycles(years ago) and cycles twice a month(every few months). I will tell you that I have never dried the Depo shot because every single person I know that has ended up with more hormonal problems. Please be careful with that shot. Also, everyone that I know that tried it gained weight. I mean women that never had a weight problem gained 30-40 lbs over the course of a year. I could not handle the metformin after trying it one month. I took myself off and began a low carb and eventually paleo diet. I refuse to take medication except for birth control pills because I am married but DO NOT want to get pregnant and my cycle is all over the place.0

Good luck! I hope the treatments go well and the side effects aren't too bad. I too have had wacky cycles. No cycles for months and months, then one that lasts for 2-3 months. I have to say that in my case, healthier eating and exercise has helped tremendously. I think both in the physical aspect and also mentally (because we all know how stress can help to perpetuate PCOS). Hopefully all your hard work starts paying off0
