ACV for our horse friends :)

As some of you may already know, I believe in the benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar. Well, I recently discovered that it can be given to horses and it has many benefits for them, as well as us.

Some ways it benefits the horse are:

1) nutritional supplement
2) prevents enteroliths
3) natural horse fly spray
4) mild cure for skin conditions
5) hoof care product

Thanks so much for posting this info. I been reading a lot about the benefits of ACV and trying for different ways to incorporate it's use in my own life. Especially for the healthy digestive flora and dieting benefits. I love anything that is "natural" that is good for me, my family and my animals-- I'm not much of a "health" nut, but I do try to balance things out since we are constantly deluged with so much crap and chemicals in our food, water and air. ACV is easy to find and its cost effective, so that is also helpful. I tried drinking 2 TBSP ACV mixed in 1 C. water, but it was just too bitter tasting. I think ACV is an acquired taste ;) so I need to dilute it more and work my way up. I've also read you can mix 1 tsp raw honey with it to tone down the bitter flavor if it's not to your liking. I rinse my hair with ACV once a week and love what it's done for my hair. I wonder how it would do rinsing my horses mane and tail with it? I wonder if you'd get shiny manes and tails *and* fly control at the same time?? hmm...interesting.....

I posted a blog about benefits to humans but I went ahead and copied and pasted it :)

When consumed, apple cider vinegar helps with weight loss, blood sugar stabilization, indigestion, gas, bloating, water retention, hot flashes, gout, and helps to detoxify the body. When applied topically, it helps with warts, gout, and strips your hair of build-up. There are many benefits as you can see but I have included a link that will explain more and how to use apple cider vinegar. http://www.apple-cider-vinegar-benefits.com/

I usually drink my ACV drink with warm water. Personally, I think it makes it taste better plus it helps dissolve the honey. Also, when warm liquids are drank it helps with fat digestion. Think of what happens when fat gets cold...it turns solid. The same thing happens when you drink ice cold beverages.

I hope this helps those that are interested and maybe it will turn more people onto ACV and it's overall health benefits. Can't hurt to try it.

    My recipe is as follows:

    8 oz. warm spring water

2 tbsp. Bragg's ACV (Raw unfiltered organic with mother)

    1 tbsp. Raw organic honey

And there you have it... simple. I try to drink it before or during every meal.

I'd be interested to find out myself what it would do for their manes and tails too :) I posted my recipe in the above post... I can't do it without the honey...lol.

The "mother" is the active cultures... I guess that's what you'd call them.

I use Trader Joe's organic, unfiltered ACV...not sure it says anything about "the mother"....how do you know the mother is in there? ( I have a lot of funny comments to that question floating in my mind right now...I will spare you). But really--is it the floaters that are there since it's unfiltered? I added 2 TBSP's to my Green Smoothie this morning---bleh! LOL I got in a hurry and forgot to add the honey. But I drank it down anyways. I'm going to try it your way in the warm water with the honey and ACV. That sounds much better.

Lol... yeah it's not so good without the honey. You can add it to fruit juices too if that makes it easier. Usually it will tell you if the "mother" is in there but yes, the things floating around is the "mother". Oh...and it's very important to shake the ACV well too so you can make sure you get the "mother" in your drink.
  • I can't wait until the weather wears off so I can bathe my mom's horse with ACV. He has so much dandruff, no wonder he rolls all the time...he's itchy...aside from winter hair starting to come off.
