Hi guys, did you guys hear about the PlayStation 4? :smooched:  I watched about an hour of it and it seemed pretty bad *kitten*. Is anyone planning on getting it?

I'm thinking about it, since I've only ever played on the Xbox, might be kinda cool to play some exclusives.

What's your guys opinion on it, or will you be waiting on the new Microsoft console??

Let me know what you think.

I'm excited to see what xbox reveal soon, the machines are basically the same inside with their specs. so it's going to be more based on controller/accessories/os/support/online stuff and exclusives. For example Blizzard has signed up with PS4 and it's getting Diablo 3 which is pretty sweet. It's going to come down to personal preference, what your friends play too and price I think. I play xbox now but not sure which next gen console to get. IT'S EXCITING!! lol

Only recently got a secondhand ps3 500gb so I will wait until people have owned and reviewed the ps4 and found any faults or issues, before I consider throwing away money.

Yea I hear you, probably will do the same, I just want a good console and I'm not a fanboy that only gets a PlayStation or Xbox, so whichever speaks more to me I shall be purchasing.
  • Right now, PS4 has said that it won't implement that DRM stuff preventing used games from being played. Until xBox releases their thoughts on the matter, it's currently PS4 - 1, xBox - 0
  • I'm holding off on getting one because most of the time Sony doesn't deliver on the things they promised when you take a system out of the box.

Rumor is the Microsoft will unveil in April.

I watched the trailer thing on Youtube and frankly wasn't that impressed. I mean I love the PS so Im gonna end up getting it anyway. Its just that I'm watching the trailer and thinking "wow this doesn't look much different than PS3 quality". I think graphical technology is really hitting its limits. Jumps in quality from one generation to the next used to be phenomenal. Now its like barely noticeable.

Once we get into 4k gaming it will be noticeable.

I am sure I will end up shelling out the cash for Sony's next monster. The whole DRM thing has me skept on both sides. I know M$ and Sony are both trying to find a win win on the sitch but only gamers lose in the end.

Yeah. You would think that GameStop and GameFly and some of the other second-market companies would get together and be like, " Uhh yeah, you can't do that or else we'll go away. We are not prepared to go away. "

Listen to people who were actually there in person, and they say it's quite a big difference.

And on top of that, early PS3 games didn't look THAT much better than PS2 games, aside from the bump in resolution. But as time goes on, you saw a massive jump in visuals in PS3 games. Compare some of the launch titles from 2006 to some of the more recent games, and you'll see leaps and bounds. The same goes for practically any console, and will be the same with the PS4.

That being said, I'm playing Tomb Raider now on my PS3, and I don't understand why people have been clamoring for a new console for the past few years... Games are looking great. Good enough that the lack of backwards compatibility actually is an issue for me. I have a big backlog of games, so I won't be jumping to the next-gen immediately.

Yes, Gaikai tech works (I tried a game on their site a while back), but the thing I don't understand is - if it can stream PC games, PS2, PS3 games, PS4 demos and remote play and remote control, why can't it just stream PS4-quality games to PS3s? Put a Gaikai client or built-in firmware on the PS3, and make it the last console ever with a Netflix-style service for games... I get that people, for some reason, want to spend hundreds of dollars on a "new thing" and with data caps and rural areas with low connections, it's not practical for those people. But it COULD have been done...

Anyhow, when I do jump generations, it'll depend on a few things: what Microsoft and Nintendo's next-gen systems offer, which I suspect neither will compare favorably (given Nintendo's mediocre years-behind hardware and Microsoft's focus on Kinect and scamming money from their customers via Xbox Live Gold), and the state of Steam on Linux, or an official Steam Box...

Lots can happen between now and when I am ready to move on from PS3.

In the meantime, my next console will be the Ouya.

I hope it's able to play previous console games. I hate that crap when they don't allow it. I should be able to play FF7 on the PS4.

PS4 has been confirmed NOT to be backwards compatibility.. However older PS games might be able to be played from thier 'cloud' service but they really havn't commented on that yet.. That's what I read so far..

Still. I don't see games getting much more "mindblowing" (in terms of graphics) than what we already have now. Its like HDTV, I guess. Technology hitting its full potential.

I'm not excited at all for this.

Yes, I'll probably buy one in a year or so when the kinks have been worked out, but the implementation stage for a new console always blows. Folks who can't afford the new hardware will get watered-down versions of the next-gen games, and no real support for their current console, while those that get the new one will be stuck with design flaws and will basically be paying to product test it until the next, updated production cycle starts.

used to be an xbox fan, but ever since the ps3, ive only played on that console. in fact, i put away my xbox and all of its games. the ps is far superior! plus, if they integrate the vita to the 4, i can play my ps4 games in bed. yay! haha

PS4 is #1 on my Chrisrmas list.
I am a bit concerned about the look of the controller.

#1. The Ps3 controller which was identical(I think) to all previous controllers fits so well in my hands. It is very intuitive for me. We have an Xbox also and I hate that controller.

#2. The new controller has this dumb blue light at the front. Will that glare into my TV screen? Do I need to mask it with electrical tape?

The blue light is a motion tracker. The 3D camera will pick it up. It basically adds Move functionality to the main controller to replace the SIXAXIS features of the DualShock 3. I would imagine that the light would only come on when it was necessary (not least because it would be a big drain on the battery to have it glowing all the time for no reason).
