the curve balls of life

I had been doing really good, watching what I was eating and even had started exercising almost daily until three weeks ago when my mom suddenly passed away. Since then, I've found that I've not eaten the way I should be, not exercising and now I'm in a rut again. This extra cold extra long winter we seem to be having is killing my motivation to get back to the gym and to stay away from comfort foods. I even thought I had a couple of friends willing to go work out with me to help with my motivation but unfortunately that fell through the cracks... I am so ready for the weather to break and need to get back to working out and eating better.

hey rlh, welcome to the group!
Motivation is definitely an easy thing to misplace... I had a heck of a time over the holidays, then again just last week, I wasn't feeling well all week, did not exercise or make gooding eating choices. However, the beautiful thing is that today is a new day, and from this point forward I can begin again to make all the right choices and continue on my journey to good health...
Great to have you here!0 -

First of all I am so sorry about your mom. That is definitely a huge event that will be forever in the back of your mind. My mom has been gone 2 and 1/2 years and it still seems surreal. I agree with you that good weather will help most of us lift our spirits. I have finally found some inside exercises that I am 'falling in love with'. One of them is Zumba and another is a small group in Monrovia Indiana that has an awesome inspiring leader who has circuit training (hard to explain). But anyway, hang in there and know that we all go through ups and downs (called life) and I 'hate' the downs but you are going to get through this and will feel so much better once you get back on track. Just don't beat yourself up for taking some time off for grieving. Very hard time to lose a mom especially if unexpected. Take care!0

I'm sorry to hear about your mom. You'll need to deal with the grief before your motivation to workout comes back. Talk with friends and other family members about how you're feeling and if you need to, maybe see a counselor. That is a huge loss to deal with, and no one would feel like doing every day activities after losing someone so close.
Also, when you've fallen in a rut, sometimes it helps to ease your way back in. Rather than going to the gym and just launching yourself at working out, maybe just do a shorter workout, or something less intense. Maybe try some yoga, or do a 10 minute jump rope session and call it a day. When I really don't want to workout, I figure an easy workout is better than no workout, and it still keeps the habit of putting my sneakers on even if I don't give the workout my 100% effort.0
