Loading weights-overhead press

Ok maybe a dumb question. Where and how do I load the weights and then get it over my head to lift it. I do not think I would be able to load on the ground and then lift over my head

You can clean it to your collarbones, or just deadlift and carry on up with the momentum. Chances are this will be your weakest lift, so you should be able to get it up to your chest, and that's the start position for the press anyway.
What weight are you using for this, deadlifts and rows?0 -
I use the power rack for this.0

I clean to my collarbones and then go up. But I'm also at 45lbs lol
But I watched a dude OHP like 225# using a power cage.0 -
Thanks !0

I do this, as well.0 -
I was doing cleans until I figured out I could use my squat rack. Duh on my part. Still didn't make anything easier on them for me  I'm such an upper body weakling.0

Ha, I use the squat rack too. I'm afraid to clean, even my piddly amount for OHP, because I can just see myself falling on my *kitten*...0 -

I use my squat rack also. Specially since the bar is already on it from doing squats.
Last thing I do every workout is clean the bar to the squat rack and that's where it stays, waiting for next time.0 -
I also clean if I need to...if the power cage is being used or something. 45-58 pounds was okay, but I think 60 might be tiring.0

I use the power rack with the bars just under where I need the bar to go on my chest. Something about lifting 100+ lbs over my head scares me. Also I feel like cleaning from the floor affects the workout I am actually trying to do. I want the best bang for my buck so I don't clean.0

I'm beginning to consider investing into a power cage thingy for bench presses and OHPs. Rippetoe makes it very clear that people actually die from benching without a capable spotter, and now I'm askeert.
The thought of dropping all that weight on my head and/or my throat doesn't exactly give me the warm fuzzies ...0 -

I would do it. It is so much safer. You dont want to be stuck under that bar after you just failed a rep. That said I think most of the people that are dying are lifting fairly heavy weights. But I haven't done any research yet. I do my benches at the gym without a spotter right now but theyre still fairly easy and I dont think I'm going to fail. However, I will be as soon as I see it getting mildly hard.0 -

I keep having this recurring visualization of me knocking my teeth out doing the bench press.
Hubby does it with me so I have a spotter too.0 -

The BP is definitely a lift I plan on going super slow with and never let my muscles fatigue. Push comes to shove I can always flip myself over on the ground and push the other way (i.e. pushups) where gravity will be much kinder and a lot less deadly. :laugh:0
