So my coach thinks he has a good match up for sparring between me and another girl. We spar body / body all the time, and I spar the guys head / body, but they go light on me and this girl and I go pretty hard. This girl has a really strong straight that scares the hell out of me when I think about her landing it to my head. I think she might accidentally knock me out.
My defense sucks. I'm working on slips and rolls, but I am too slow to execute them sparring right now- I'm more likely to throw my head into the punch than to actually avoid it. My strongest punch is my left hook, and she leaves her right out way too long, so I'm thinking if I can get around her right and counter with a left hook, I'll be golden. Advice?

I would focus on keeping your hands up and just use simple blocks to deflect her shots. It will be minimal effort for you and a lot of energy for her to keep throwing them. I'm guessing that you are both right-handed? Is she fast in getting her hand back in position for defense after she throws the shot? If not that could be your opening.0
