Too much sugar!

I am currently 17 weeks pregnant and first started using my fitness pal to lose weight. I lost about 25lbs ;)
Now I am using it to maintain a healthy pregnancy weight gain. Some days I don't meet my calorie goal but other days I do or go over a little.

My biggest obstacle has always been sugar! I don't eat a lot of refined sweets, some fruit, only one cup of juice per day, and maybe two small pieces of chocolate. It's so hard not to go over sugar! I'm not a diabetic but I know there are many other disadvantages to too much sugar.

Does anyone else go over sugar a lot?
Do you have any advice for a fruit lover like me?

Eat fruit that grows in cold climates because it has less sugar than tropical fruit (berries instead of bananas).

Ditch the juice, it's really not all that good for you, eat the actual fruit instead (orange instead of OJ). At least this way you get the benefits of the fibre.

I had to keep my sugar low during pregnancy, and I felt so much healthier when I monitored it closely! Good luck!

I stopped tracking sugar b/c I was stressing over ALWAYS being over. I passed the glucose test easily and feel like as long as I'm not filling my body with ADDED sugar then it's fine.

ETA: I just switched it back on so I could give you an example- I entered my breakfast and I have TWO grams left for the day. An apple, plain greek yogurt, pb2, and my prenatal vitamin together equal 35g of sugar. The apple alone is 22- I'm not giving up apples for MFP. :)

    ^^^ This!!!

I agree also that if you can, omit the juice in place for the actual fruit....

Yeah, I've got to agree with this! If I tracked my sugar, I'd go nuts. I had great blood sugar numbers for my GD test, so I'm not overly concerned. If I'd had an issue, then I'd just have to deal with it. I don't throw caution to the wind with what I eat, but I don't stress about sugar, either.

    This is my complaint daily!
I always blow waaay over and I strive for 40g a day. I find if you stick to sugar from natural foods/fruits it's easier but you'll have to limit fruits.
Then the candy calls me, lol!

I had wheatbix, skim milk and 3 strawberries and I was already halfway to my goal, it's tough!
  • thanks everyone. It's amazing how much sugar "no added sugar" 100% juice has

My maternal fetal specialist said the juice is the worst because it is straight pure calories that you absorb quickly and 50% goes to the baby. I cut it out for while and it helped my weight, now back in and the weight is coming on again.

I don't count sugar either, it would make me crazy. We eat lots of fruit, I eat little to no processed or refined sugar so I justify it that way.
