Psychology of Eating

This short article is a great reminder that even if we have really dialed in on WHAT we eat, there is still so much more to our "diet" that can affect our health:

I know I definitely need to work on some of these points, and since I've got the WHAT to eat part down pretty well, I think I will make at least part of this list my goal for the April Whole30.

Good article!
Related to the psychology of eating, I know they say it's not necessary to log your food while doing a Whole30, as one of the goals is to retrain your body to recognize what the right amount of food is, yes? And yet - so many of us have been logging for SO LONG, that it's going to be emotionally difficult to refrain from doing so once we begin the plan.
Do those of you who have done this before have any hints for the rest of us? Is it really as simple as "just stop logging"? I was wondering about maybe removing all macro columns and only giving myself the calorie column (because I don't think you can remove all columns, right?) - that way I can at least keep notes about what the heck I'm actually eating, even if it's just out of curiosity. Then at the end of the month, I can turn the macro columns back on and see what kind of levels I was actually (naturally) eating at.
And yeah, I do tend to treat my body as a science experiment, heh.0 -
I didn't use MFP at all during my first two Whole30s, but I had no idea that were even paleo-type people using MFP then! I kept a journal for the first few weeks of my first one (on my blog), but then I got sick of even journaling it and I quit. For the sake of a n=1 experiment, I'm going to track this time around (my 4th). I did think about writing it all down someplace and then entering it later though... I'm not sure I will ever enter it if I have to do 30 days at once!0

I guess I like the idea of logging, as it's so easy for me to do something like...make 2 eggs in the morning and call that good, totally skipping the veggies. The same can be true at lunch. But if I have to log my meals, I'll be more aware that I'm missing something (and also have to own up to if I ate something NOT compliant), so I think I will log, just for those reasons. I won't get too excited over the actual calorie totals, though.0

I'm also planning on logging my food for the reason you said, hdsqrl- to see what things I should eat/more less of. I'm pretty sure the harder challenge for me will be eating enough veggies, not just sticking to the foods I'm supposed to eat.
Also, it's just nice to have your food journal to look back on in the future. If I were to try a Whole30 again and wanted to remember some of the yummy meals I tried, then it would cut back on my planning time next time And it's exciting to see how much food I'm eating but how much lower the calories are from what I was eating just a week ago hehehe. I'm not really concerned about the macros though. My fat was in the red yesterday, but I'm not afraid of fat (in my food, that is.)0
