Good Morning,

Hope everyone had a great week! I found another interesting article in Runner's Magazine called Fridge Wisdon by Liz Applegate PH.D. and thought I'd share a couple excerpts from it:

WEIGHT-LOSS SNACKS
Letting yourself get too hungry can lead to overeating at you next meal, which won't help your weight-loss efforts. You also need to keep calories in check. Aim for snacks with 200 calories or fewer and 5 to 10 grams of protein and fiber, which will keep you feeling full longer.
BEST BETS
Kind Nuts and Spices Dark Chocolate Nuts and Sea Salt Bar (200 calories, 7 grams fiber, 6 grams protein)
8 ounces 1% chocolate mild and a small handful of high-fiber cereal (194 calories, 4 grams fiber, 8 grams protein)

LATE-NIGHT SNACKS
A recent study showed that compared with snacking in the afternoon, eating an evening snack can boost levels of artery-clogging LDL cholesterol. If you want something to satisfy that crunchy, salty, or sweet craving, aim to keep it around 100 calories. Choose higher-carbohydrate foods-protein and fat take longer to digest, which may make it more difficult to fall asleep.
BEST BETS
3 cups air-popped popcorn and zero-calorie flavored water (93 calories, 18 grams carbs)
1 cup blueberries sprinkled with 1 teaspoon sugar (99 calories, 25 grams carbs)

Have a great day!:heart::heart:

I definitely agree with the overeating after getting too hungry thing - I've done that lots of times, but am trying to stop. Thanks for the rest. I used to subscribe to runner's magazine; maybe I should look into getting it again.

If it gets warm enough for me today I'm going to go running outside; if not, then I'll go to the gym. Hope everyone has a good Sunday

Just got home from vacation was worried I might have put on all that I had lost. I was pleased that I didn't. I did workouts, I tried to eat well. Not saying I didn't splurge some, cause I did. That's what vacation is all about. This is good for me, proves to my self that I can enjoy myself and still lose or at least maintain. Means I can do it this summer when I spend most of my time at the lake. I had people trying to encourage me to eat more or differently, almost like they were trying to sabotage me. That's what it felt like. This journey I'm on has really made me look at things in a new light.

Great job Lori! I know people don't like it when you're on a...well I don't want to say diet...but healthier way of eating and I guess it's just human nature to try to make you eat! Weird! But great job rising above the challenge!
    I'm glad you're back:wink:

Thanks for those great tidbits from your magazine Angie! It's always nice learning new things :)

Lori, I just don't understand why people do that to people who are trying to eat well. I can't figure it out. Are they possible jealous? Do they want you to eat more so they don't feel guilty for eating so much? It was like on one of the last episodes of the biggest loser family and friends were doing that to some of the contestants. I just don't get it!

After having a terrible day yesterday, as far as eating goes, I'm back on track today :) Makes me wonder if I need a cheat day. But I always think I should just be able to do it all without one because this is a lifestyle change, not a diet! I've really been struggling with how I want to eat. Do I want to eat everything an just stick with low proportions? Do I want to cut out all grains? I notice sometimes when eating grains that's all I want and I also feel very bloated. When I cut them out I feel much better but feel like I'm never fully satisfied. Do I want to eat Paleo and not eat any grains, dairy or legumes? There are TOO many options these days and I just want to feel the best I can! My 8 month old is starting to munch on real foods and i just want the best for her but there are just too many ways/choices...AHH!

Anyway, it's pretty crappy weather here today, puts me in that gloomy sorta mood. I want the sunshine back but it doesn't look like I will be seeing much of that this week, unfortunately. I love the energy I get from the sun, the motivation as well :)

I hope you all have a great last chance workout!

I don't know about everyone else...but I'm not going on anymore fad diets where I can't eat this or I can't eat that...I don't have any foods that are forbidden. With that said, I don't think I would go as far as to have one whole day be a "cheat day" I mean I realize it may not ruin what you've done the rest of the week...but I work so hard to eat junk all day for a whole day...you know? If we were going out to a restaurant, or someone's birthday, or a special holiday, I would splurge a little..just everything in moderation...I'm sure there will be those days though when I do go a little crazy and eat everything I want..oh well, right? Tomorrow's another day and we are only human...but I'm going to try not to have too many of those days!

I'm not saying you shouldn't have a cheat day though...It's up to you!

It's hard to say what is right. I feel you know yourself and have to do what feels right for you. I never have a food I can't eat, because I know if I did I would binge on it. I have been experimenting with different grains as an alternative to meat sometimes. I've been adding them to my salads. Also I've been trying different beans. I have found I'm not as hungry and full for longer. Been looking up new deserts that are low calories because I love sweets.l like to end my dinner meal with a sweet and a cup of tea (changed from coffee so I sleep better). I wonder if anyone can tell me, I always seem to go over my sugars even if I have no sweets and just fruit. Is it as bad if it's fruit. On day's when we say have 3 fruits I'm always over. What is your thoughts?

I don't want a cheat day either because I want this change to be ALL the time, not just 6 days out of the week! I'd rather do what you said and if special occasions come up let myself indulge a little or not, depending on how I feel! I have decided not to cut out grains but also not make them my main go to during the day. I'm not a vegetable eater so I'm trying very hard to up my veggie intake and not rely on grains. I know they can fill me up as well but right now in my head it just doesn't seem that way :)

I have the same exact problem with sugar. I finally decided to just ignore my sugar intake. I feel like if I have only fruit and it goes over at least it's natural sugars and not processed. I think I only get 26 grams a day, which like you said, eating 3 fruits makes you go over! I may end up taking my sugar column out and adding something else in it's place.
