General first date advice/tips?

So, I've been somewhat of a hermit for a lot of years and don't have much dating experience, but I'm starting to get out there now. I've got a date this Saturday with a great girl, not a stranger but someone I've already known just not too well. We've been on a "friendly date" and by the end I could see both of us were feeling something. I'm mostly worried about those awkward pauses and having things to talk about, which is I'm sure common in early dating. But I was just looking for some friendly advice to maybe kinda ease my worries. Thanks

You both know each other and want to go on the date so that's a great sign already! My only tip is to be yourself. Forcing conversation is much harder than it seems.0

I listen to radio shows a lot before dates to get interesting topics queued in my mind for reference later. It helps if there's a lull to bring up something like "Oh, I heard this situation, what do you think?"0

The best dates are the one's that just flow
But hey, there's no harm in preparing yourself for the nervous moments. Write a list of questions out on a bit of paper and and run the the gents to read it during a silent moment!!
I used to do that for phone calls. It's just a prompter so you dont forget all the lovely questions and topics of convo you'd like to ask to get to know her.
Other than that, the main thing is ask questions to show you're interested in her, and her life. But also, chat about yourself so she can get to know you too.
Create good body language - eye contact, smiles, touch her arm/small of her back.
Offer to buy the first drink as soon as you get to the bar.
Focus on her all night. Don't look at other women!!!!
Kiss her (although some women on here have said they dont like this
Arrange the next date
Good luck :flowerforyou:0 -
My best first dates were both drinks/dinner with pool playing or arcade games. I don't play pool so it was funny and light. Just do something fun!
Serious first dates were the awkward ones with silences and I'd have anxiety. So just keep it fun. There's plenty of time for serious stuff later.0 -

Haha, well I think you can just go with the flow. If you're sitting close and you feel good body chemistry, and she doesn't seem shy or nervous to touch you, or even brush hands or whatever, go for it. But if you sense she needs body space, isn't touchy-feely, don't go for it.Other than that, the main thing is ask questions to show you're interested in her, and her life. Good point. Don't let it be "me me me" but not "you you you" either. Should be a good mix.
I say current events but not anything too heavy is a good topic, also sports, summer plans, the bar/restaurant itself.0 -
Thanks everyone for the replys. I'm definitely feeling better about it. And we actually are doing something fun. We are doing Smash Putt, which is this more adult themed mini golf course. More artsy/extreme obstacles, and a full bar. It should be a lot of fun, and we're going out after too, so hopefully by then things will be more comfortable. We've also been chatting on FB for the last hour and a half, I think things will go well. Thanks again, and I'll gladly take more input if anyone else cares to add.0

When in doubt, grab her boobs, so you can at least say you got to second base.0

ehh... people keep trying to figure out if a first date went well with all the awkward and yadda yadda. I always ask myself - by the end of the date - would we have done anything to not have it end yet? Yes? date two. No? Bye bye, obv chemistry isnt there.0

How did it go?????????????
And to anyone curious, to say it went well would be a huge understatement
I totally psyched it up way too much, at least when I first started this thread. Chatting a bunch mid week before the date I think really helped. Never really had trouble talking and once she took my hand as we were walking to the golf place its like we clicked instantly. We hung out most of Sunday too0 -
