Hey,
Well I did it, its pissing down with rain, gale force winds and I had a couple of mental car drivers but I survived!
Thank you everyone for your help to my last topic!! It's helped greatly.
Managed the 17km, 10miles journey in a hour and 11 minutes.
The weather report:
Isle of Man
Heavy Rain
7°C | °F°FPrecipitation: 70%
Humidity: 100%
Wind: 21 mph
Just a couple of quick questions, what do people do with snot?? My nose was streaming I'm certain my gloves are now a health liability. Also to those people who wear glasses, how do you stop them fogging up when its raining, there were a couple of times that I couldnt see anything!
Thanks again

Woo hoo!
Now you've done it, I'll tell you...
It won't get any easier, you'll just get faster
Well done0 -
Well Done!
Snot bombs away, hold one nostril closed and blow them suckers out! (make sure there are no other cyclists behind you first though  )
I don't wear prescriptions myself but I do wear cycling specific glasses that don't suffer from fogging, try wearing a cycling specific cap to minimise the rain deposits or Google it, there's loads of different suggestions out there i'm sure one of them should work?0 -
Good on you Nessy!
That sounds like typical IOM weather!!
Fogging glasses - Try the anti mist spray that motorcyclists use on their visors (Bob Heath is quite a good one.). Or wear contact lenses....
Snot - Sniff and spit....
(Charming lot aren't we?)0 -
Thanks everyone, I am slightly proud of myself (might aswell stroke my ego while I'm here lol).
Never thought of just snotting it out! I did alot of sucking and spitting, very ladylike I have to say!!
Will google the foggy glasses online, sijomial, I think I will look into the motorbike stuff, I'm sure well have some of it floating around lol! On another note have you seen the new TT helmet very tempted!

Great job! Just the beginning of tons of fun!
Additionally, when launching snot rockets, be mindful of the wind. You dont want to get nailed by one!0 -
Well done!
My snot rockets have the accuracy of a scud missile!0 -
Well done!
I must confess to not being very skilled in blowing snot-rockets, and have earned myself many a mucused shoulder. I actually carry a cloth handkerchief in my back pocket, even on century rides; so civilized and gentlemanly you'd think I have mint juleps in my water bottles.0 -
Scudder76 - I have to say I think thats what I'm going to do, I'd love to be able to do snot-rockets but I know they are going to missfire quite dramatically lol!0

Congratulations! In the rain no less! You are awesome! I hate riding in the rain.0

Strong work! In poor weather that's an achievement (and well on the way to understanding rule 9 of the Velominati). Cycling cap tends to get the majority of the rain out of the glasses and self-produced fogged glasses can be remedied partially by altering layers/types of clothing and keeping moving. When I commuted in Portland (lots of rain there) really only had sises with fogging at a slow speed and at stops like traffic lights. As for snot rockets - it's like peeing into the wind, check your aim before you fire away. And thanks to @snowstrong I always sing the Hot Pockets jingle in my head when launching snot rockets...0

Thanks again, its lovely to have so many people who care about cycling!!!
Cycled in today, no rain and less wind, managed to cut my time by 15 minutes which I'm very happy about. Just a tad bit upset my bike computer didnt want to work so didnt know what speed I was doing.
Will defantly be looking up getting a cycling app on my phone though!

Congrats on riding to work! The only advice I can offer is about snot, lol. My nose seems like a fountain when I ride, and if I tried snot-rockets I'd be covered in them! I wear a camelbak and have a bandana tied to one of the loops on it, so I can wipe my nose with that so I don't have to sniff every time.

LASIK, the best money I've spent on 'me'. I still wear sunglasses all the time, but the difference is miraculous! I found that I'm so much more willing to try to do things; cycling, running, etc. now that I don't have to worry about losing my glasses and being blind until I get to see my eye doc!
Congratulations on your ride! You inspire!0
