Hey so I thought this might be a fun topic since the weather is finally nice ::fingers crossed:: its an excuse to get out and explore.
So I was just looking at the website for the Queens botanical gardens and I found out that its usually a $4 entry fee which isnt so bad but they also have Free hours: Wednesday, 3-6pm and Sunday, 4-6pm which is even better!
Side note: They also having parking available for $5.
Its a nice excuse to get outside and enjoy spring.
Anyone else know of free or cheap things to do outdoors?

Governors Island - They're always having events and reenactments. Sometimes they set up a beer garden. It's free to go on the ferry and you can bring your bike, or rest one there.

That's what I miss most about NY, the free activities, events, concerts, festivals, you name it. I especially miss spring, when people start shedding the winter coats and start showing some skin- the flash of color, fashion and flesh is hypnotic. People watching at it's best lol. Can't wait to be back next year!0

Brooklyn Botanic Garden is also free if you enter between 10 am and noon on Saturdays. Shakespeare in the Park is free but you have to be willing to go get in line at like 6 am! The High Line obviously... Ummm those are the first few I can think of but I'm sure there are more0

Ooooh... I didn't know about the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens! Thanks!
I did Shakespeare in the Park last summer to see "Into the Woods" since it is my all time favorite musical (and I know it isn't actually a Shakespeare play). I got there super early and sat in the rain for hours, but it was so worth it.
A lot of museums are actually free (like the Met, the Brooklyn Art Museum, The Bronx Museum of Art, etc). The entry fee is a "suggested donation" - read the fine print if you aren't sure. The Met does roof top exhibits in the summer and you can get a pretty spectacular view of Central Park and the city.0 -

The Brooklyn one is gorgeous, especially the Japanese gardens and the cherry blossoms. Also, their website will tell you when the cherry blossoms hit peak! http://www.bbg.org/discover/cherries0 -
