Hello

I am a 36 yo lesbian from Maine. I started using myfitnesspal about 3 weeks ago and I love it. I have only lost 8lbs but its a work in progress I weigh 214 and would like to get down to about 175. I just wish it came off as easily as it goes on :( and I wish I didn't crave sweets so bad....any ideas what to do about bordem eating?

I'm only five weeks in and close to you on loss and goals.

    My tips for snacking:

Everytime you "Think" you are hungry, drink another glass of water. Sometimes we think we are hungry when we are actually thirsty. Plus, we need the extra water to lose weight.

Try to have a stash of good snacks, like almonds. While not super low in calories, they are good for us in many ways. I try to keep raw broccoli cut in one cup portions ready. That's only 30 calories and combined with a low calorie dressing, you have a filling crunchy snack for <100 calories!

And let's face it, sometimes you just WANT that bad thing in the cupboard. Sometimes give in JUST CUT YOUR USUAL PORTION DOWN. I was craving nutty buddies this weekend. So I ate one cookie, instead of the two in the package and saved the other in a baggie in the frig. Cut a 300 calorie fail into a 150 snack that took away the temporary obsession. If we only think about what we CAN'T eat instead of all the healthier options, we are doomed.

And if you struggle most with boredom eating, make yourself "earn" it with exercise. If you have time to be bored, you have time for a few crunches or lunges.

congrats on getting started on this journey and on the progress you've already made! i second pwr's tips about water and good snacks, and i'd add that in order to cut the sugar cravings, you need to limit the amount of sugars you eat, including refined and processed things. i have found that when i let myself have sweet treats like baked good, i want more and more of them, but when i limit them or majorly cut them down, i don't crave them nearly as much.

with boredom eating, i've found that the only thing that works for me is to not buy anything i know i shouldn't be eating, and portioning out what i buy into single portion servings. also, when i find myself rifling through the kitchen for a snack, i try to change direction and go for a walk, bike ride, clean something, find something else to do to distract myself.

this is a great place to get support as long as you stick with it. keep up your good work!

When it comes to eating I use intuitive eating. I eat when I'm hungry, not when the clock tells me to. Ask yourself if you're really hungry or if you're just bored. Try healthier options like veggies or plain popcorn. Drink water or tea. Or do something so you're not bored. Take up a craft or something to do with your hands like bracelet making. You can do this while watching TV too
