Gift for Pastor?

A little bit of background, we are not your traditional church. We are a small group that gathers on Sunday mornings in a garage. My Pastor was a choir directory for many years in a traditional church until he felt led to the motorcycle ministry. So basically yes, we are a (country) biker church. Come as you are, no fancy clothes required. Tattoos? No problem! Piercings? No problem..wanna ride your motorcycle to church? We are just glad you came! We even had a couple of people ride their horses to church LOL! Pastor preaches in jeans and tshirt with his blue jean vest covered in Jesus Forever biker patches. I love it! It's the only church that I have ever found where I feel accepted and I understand every single message every single Sunday! I want to do something nice for my pastor. A "thank you, you are appreciated" type of thing, but I don't know what to get him. What is an acceptable gift for a nontraditional type of Pastor? A tie just wont do in this situation LOL

All Pastors I know have two Earthly loves....coffee and food..lol! I don't know your Pastor personally, but gift cards are easy and almost everyone appreciates them!
  • Best gift ever given by the people of our church, many years ago, was that someone collected money to give to my husband (pastor) and they gave him an envelope with the actualy money, bills and coins, that were collected. I don't remember the amount exactly but it was like $64.32. It mean more than a new, engraved with his name, Bible (which he appreciated very much also).

I had thought about a card signed by all the members, finding a way to get attendance up I know he would appreciate a full house, having him over and cooking him dinner, meeting him out and buying him dinner....just not sure :ohwell:

how about a surprise dinner for the pastor and his family and then have some members help you plan it out. the grestest gift is knowing you are appreciated for all the hard work you are doing.

    Penny,
My husband and I pastor a small nontraditional church. Actually, my husband is the pastor and I assist him.
Ties and even Bibles (uses his tablet for everything now) would not be good gifts for him either. He does like his coffee! A gift card to the local coffee shop is always a good idea. You mention your pastor is a biker, maybe a gift card to the local bike shop for some new apparel (boots, leathers, etc.). A gift card in a card signed by the church members would be awesome.

But, I can tell you what is most appreciated, is a commitment to help with the work (but, don't commit if you can't follow through). Commit to get there early and make the coffee, set-up and tear-down chairs, watch the children, or clean the meeting area. These are all things that are often left to the pastor (and his wife) in a small nontraditional type church.

Another appreciated "gift" is prayer. Pastors are on the front line of ministry. You may never know what they had to go through just to prepare this weeks sermon. We covet the prayers of our intercessors! Pray for him and his family and every few weeks write him a short note that says. "This week I prayed ____ for you"

I know neither of these are as fun or exciting as a present, but they are what a pastor would appreciate most.
    Blessings,
    Shari

If your pastor rides his bike a lot maybe a gas gift card. I agree with Shari325, prayers and being a faithful worker mean a lot. If your pastor has a lawn, maybe mowing it for him. Gifts of service. Once our pastor was in the hospital. We brought our snow blower over and did his long driveway so his wife could get out. Something small but they appreciated it. Their snowblower was broken.
