21 Eight days later, when the baby was circumcised, he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel even before he was conceived.

22 Then it was time for their purification offering, as required by the law of Moses after the birth of a child; so his parents took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord. 23 The law of the Lord says, “If a woman’s first child is a boy, he must be dedicated to the Lord.” 24 So they offered the sacrifice required in the law of the Lord—“either a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.

25 At that time there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon. He was righteous and devout and was eagerly waiting for the Messiah to come and rescue Israel. The Holy Spirit was upon him 26 and had revealed to him that he would not die until he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. 27 That day the Spirit led him to the Temple. So when Mary and Joseph came to present the baby Jesus to the Lord as the law required, 28 Simeon was there. He took the child in his arms and praised God, saying,

29 “Sovereign Lord, now let your servant die in peace,
as you have promised.
30 I have seen your salvation,
31 which you have prepared for all people.
32 He is a light to reveal God to the nations,
and he is the glory of your people Israel!”

33 Jesus’ parents were amazed at what was being said about him. 34 Then Simeon blessed them, and he said to Mary, the baby’s mother, “This child is destined to cause many in Israel to fall, but he will be a joy to many others. He has been sent as a sign from God, but many will oppose him. 35 As a result, the deepest thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your very soul.”

Observation: The offer of salvation is open to all.

Application: If I desire salvation, I shall have it.

    Prayer:
    Dear Lord,
I want your gift of salvation. Please help me not to waver in my convictions, please plant me in the solid, healthy soil, protect me from the sun and water me so that I may grow. I want to trust as Simeon and Mary trusted. Please forgive my sins, in Jesus' name, Amen.

What stood out to me was that Mary and Joseph followed the Levitcal laws out of obedience to God.
The passage concerning the laws of purification is found in Lev 12. (the whole chapter talks about it)

The other thing that stood out to me was Simeon. We don't read any stories about all the wonderful amazing things he did for God. just a couple sentences, He was righteous and devout. and for that reason God promised Im he'd see the Christ before he died. What an awesome ting to be promised! and what a quiet life he must have lead in his righteousness to not hear much more from him.

My prayer is to be like Simeon. Righteous and devout- but not big and loud and In Your Face but just obedient to God.

observation; When jesus was 8 days old he was circumsized, it was at this time that they came to the temple for his purification this was according to the law of moses. They brought him up to Jerusalem to be presented to the Lord. It was during this time Simeon spoke a blessing over Jesus Christ which was customary of the law

Application: In the spiritual realm we can apply this as we come to know Jesus christ as our lord and savior that we can present ourselves to him. He can purify and cleanse us from the inside out.

Prayer: I deisre a pure heart and I know there are many times I make mistakes. Help me to know I can come to you and allow you to cleanse and purify me from the inside out.

    LUKE 2:21-35

30 For my eyes have seen your salvation, 31 which you have prepared in the sight of all people, 32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel."

    OBSERVATION
Mary and Joseph followed the Law of Moses. They made sure Jesus was circumcised on the 8th day. By circumcision, Jesus became a son of the covenant which God established with Abraham in Genesis 17:10-12. They also made sure he was consecrated unto the Lord God. I was doing some further reading and came across this which I thought was amazing: "In the previous versus Luke showed that the story of Jesus was rooted in the Law of Moses. In these versus (vv. 25-40), Luke shows that the story of Jesus was confirmed by two prophets, Simeon and Anna, who spoke of Jesus under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Therefore "the Law and the Prophets" confirm Jesus to be Messiah (see Luke 16:16; Acts 28:23). Simeon was both righteous and devot and he was only waiting on the consolation of Isreal. This is the comfort (peace) and restoring of the people spoke about in Isaiah. It was revealed to Simeon by the Holy Spirit that he would live to see this. Again, the people were looking for a political move/change & physical (healing from so much sickness) but what a lot of them didn't comprehend was that Jesus came todo so much more. We all would receive peace from God as He conquered sin. He laid down His life so that we all could live. I know that so many people state that the Holy Spirit revealed things to them however Simeone's experience was confirmed with what the Old Testament already stated. So, it all came together. That was amazing. I wonder how he must have felt at the time. So much joy to know that the Redeemer had come! It also showed how both Simeon and Anna were righteous and set aside for God's work.

    APPLICATION
I can appreciate Him more for all that He's done. Just as Christ presented Himself as a living sacrifice we can too. We can just like Simeon and Anna, dedicate ourselves to the Lord...ready and willing to be used by Him.

    PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I thank you for your greatness. Thank you for the revelations of old and new and how you reveal yourself to us. As we wait for your Son's return help me to keep my focus. Help me to be patient and keep the faith. I am a willing vessel ready to be used by you. In Jesus Christ's name I pray, Amen.
