getting sick 4 days before my half!

So I've been training very hard for my third half (which is this Sunday!) I'm hoping to blow my PR out of the water by 15-20 minutes. But with that being said, I have a cold coming on. It isn't something I can't run through (sore throat and cough) I've ran through worst But I did pick up some of the zinc cold therapy, thought I would give it a try. But I have never taken it before. I did some digging and it appears that Zinc supplements aren't a bad idea for long distance runners anyways...has anyone taking these, does it hinder your running at all? Does it actually make the cold go away faster?

No idea but I really hope you feel good on your race day. That would be so frustrating and is one of my fears for my own half that's coming up.0

This was me last week! I work with small children and they always seem to get me at the worst possible time. I was feeling sneezy and tired, but I loaded myself up on vitamin C and took 2-3 zinc lozenges (target brand) a day for 3-4 days and I never got sick! Ran my half on Sunday and still feel healthy now.0

I've yet to see a medical based document that shows that any supplement is of any value other than that of the placebo effect.
Yes, there's lots of testimonials and lots of personal stories but that's it - testimonials and personal stories.
Sorry to hear that you have a cold. There are drugs that can reduce the symptoms but, so far, we don't have anything that can kill the virus that gives us the common cold.0 -
Actually, medical study has demonstrated that zinc can cut the duration of a cold. But, in those studies it was reducing the duration by one day, out of about five or six days otherwise. So, I do not know if you would say that is really helpful or worth the effort.
