can anyone explain to me why my bp went up and goes up in the evening, been staying 112 to 123 and today at 12 it was 140 and at 130 it was 143......thought it would go down with exercise instead to the 143...also before I saw it at the 140 I just finished cleaning house.....so confused on why this happened and why every night around 8 to 10 pm it goes up

Could be food. What are you eating for dinner?

It's possible those time's may be high stress points for you. Also if you tend to eat around those times you may be having salty foods (which ups the BP)? Maybe not drinking enough water? It's hard to tell really.
  • thanks all, its not around eating time, usually at least 2 hours after and I cut all salt out that is possible back in jan. don't use anything but mrs. dash and check the sodium on my log in foods and I stay way under 2500

2500 is generally way too high for people with high blood pressure. I aim for 1500 mg/day.

The American Heart Association now recommends everyone (not just high risk groups) limit their consumption of sodium to 1500 mg per day or less (http://newsroom.heart.org/news/new-studies-reinforce-american-240224). The World Health Organization recommends no more than 2000 mg/day of sodium (http://www.who.int/mediacentre/news/notes/2013/salt_potassium_20130131/en/), The USDA and CDC set the limit at 2300 mg/day and 1500 mg/day for high risk groups (half the US population) (http://www.cdc.gov/salt/pdfs/Sodium_Dietary_Guidelines.pdf, http://www.cnpp.usda.gov/Publications/DietaryGuidelines/2010/PolicyDoc/ExecSumm.pdf)

I have NO IDEA how MFP arrived at 2500 mg/day. It's not supported by any reputable health organization that I've been able to find.

My BP tends to go up in the afternoon and evening, even though it could be normal in the morning when I wake up. When my BP was at it's highest, my morning BP would be around 130/85. Then it would climb to 160/105 in the evening when I got home from work.

Now that it's somewhat under control (due to diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes), my morning BP is usually around 115/70 and my evening is around 130/85. So more or less normal, or just barely pre-hypertensive.

Although if I take it after a cup of coffee it's up around 140/90, and if I work out then take it about an hour after it's even higher, back up to around 150/95 or worse. But I've noticed with regular exercise that my BP gets lower when I'm at rest (now that I'm also paying attention to other things like potassium, sodium and magnesium intake).

It's normal for your blood pressure to increase with physical activity. If you were just cleaning your house, stopped for a minute and took your BP I'd expect it to be a little high.

Try taking your BP on a rest day a few times during the day. Don't take it after eating or drinking or after much physical activity. Sit down and rest for 5 minutes before taking it.
