This is probably a dumb question, but I think starting off with 65 lbs. for barbell row is too much for me. OK to take it down? I just don't think I can increase it by 5 next time--it was difficult getting to 5 reps with 65 lbs. Thoughts?

Start with a weight that you can do the exercise with correct form with. Increase the weight when you can do the reps with good form. Even if I complete a 5x5 set, I'll repeat the weight or even lower it a little bit the next time if I think my form was falling apart toward the end. If you're using the app, it won't let you enter a weight if it's below the recommended starting point, but you can add it to the notes section.0

Great, thanks! My form was awful, so I'll try with just the bar next time...0

I started rows at 45 lbs and focused on form for a good 2-3 weeks before I was ready to take the weight up, because they felt so awkward and I had a hard time getting the form down and keeping my back parallel and all those things you have to be mindful of. I used the empty bar and 2 recycling bins.
Even now I'm only at like 65 lbs because I only do rows once a week and it's taken me this long to get the weight up with them. But I don't really care since I'm not following the SL5x5 progression anyway.
SL5x5 is a very aggressive lifting program, and if you're not there then you're not there. Start where you start, and increase the weights at a pace that makes sense for you. If your upper body and core are really deconditioned, then you may only be able to go up by 2.5 lbs a week or whatever. As long as you do increase progressively over time, is really all that matters, so don't sweat it. There's no Stronglifts police that's going to come looking for you if you modify things here and there to suit your own needs.0 -

There's not? And here I was hoping some big sweaty hunka-hunka would come after me (doubtful that my hubby would care for that, though). I typically use 40 lbs. for the back track in Body Pump with good form but with 65 in SL my form was utter crap and I could barely finish 5x5 (slightly different move as well--usually row in Body Pump comes immediately after clean and press, and bar doesn't go below kneecaps). Thanks for the input!0
