So my training partner flaked out on me! She decided she was getting "bulky" .. sniffed at this and said nothing more. Dunno how many times I can say and show pictures as proof!
My weights were getting quite heavy and I couldn't do most lifts without a spot - DL being the only one that was really OK. Squats were getting a bit concerning for me at 80kg and didn't want to chance anything. I'd have had my boyf or dad spot me, but they were moving on from strength and wouldn't be around the squat rack every session to help me!
So... now that my training partner has decided she's having a break from the gym, I'm left with the boys! (EEK!!) and today I had my first ever PROPER 3x8(to 12) session. Today was leg day - to my surprise, I was not aware of this! - and don't I feel it in my legs and bum! I still got to do some heavy-ish squats at 60kg which I enjoyed (even more so knowing that I haven't got to do it again in 2 days time!) and also walking lunges, hamstring curls and quad extensions and a set of calf raises thrown in (my calves are and have always been very big and muscular and become very defined after only a few workouts, so I'm going to take those easy... they do get quite large quite quickly.. I can't even wear boots in the winter!)
Then we moved on to some shoulders - all exercises I had never done before. WELL, OHP but did it seated and took the barbell behind our heads, corrrr that hurts!, some lateral raises with resistance bands which, in short, I cannot do.. I am useless.. and then something called a "face pull" which was very weird..... and hard....
It was good fun, and 90 minutes worth (with a warm up walk/jog thrown in).
I'm going to cardio on my non leg days, and do c25k.
Weds workout is back and tri's, Saturday is chest and bi's... never done this kind of split before.. it's most strange for me!! But I think I'll enjoy it.
We'll do this for ... I can't remember how long ... and then go back to strength for a month or so, which I will no doubt look forward to!
Ooooh it's all change here! Hoping to see some results.
Plus.. NEWSFLASH ... I'm giving up chocolate until 14 June (I go to Centre Parcs for a long weekend and I can't be expected to not eat chocolate cake etc while I'm there...) this is big news, I basically eat chocolate all the time. I've given it up before though so confident I can again.
Sorry for the long post, just excited about my new workouts and delirious from eating the last packet of chocolate for over a month...... eep.
tl;dr - no more SL for a while training partner is a wet blanket and is no more (she didn't die, just gave up!) 3x8 here I come. Leg day today - ouchie. Bye bye chocolate until mid june.. OMG b**ches be loco!

I flaked out after 3x10. Will be interesting to watch your progress. You can still post here and be part of the group, you know. Cuz we won't flake on you. :flowerforyou:0

I'll still be posting : just not 5x5'ing
Hopefuly by TP will realise she is being an idiot and get back to the gym! Wish i could rely on my boyf but his workout is pretty intense (as I am finding out!!!!!!!!!!!) and can't keep having him run back and forth every time i need a spot. No-one else is really that helpful in my gym.0 -
OK, maybe I just don't understand your circumstances...
I don't have a spotter, ever. First rule: If I don't think I can do the next rep, I don't.
For Squats: I use the power rack and if I have to bail the safety rails are there.
For Bench: my gym has benches with attached racks. They have a bail-out rack set lower, and I can use them or either a) drop the weights by tipping the bar to the side and let them slide off or b) do a roll of shame.
For OHP, I don't really worry much. But if I did, I would use the power rack with the safety rails set high.
For Pendlay rows and deadlifts, you're lifting from the floor and do not need a spotter in any event.
So, are you lacking the equipment to do squats and benches on your own?0 -

No, you don't really know my circumstances, but either way I've switched
My squats were over 80kg and I wasn't going to get much further anyway.
I needed a spot for bench because I was at 45kg and have very weak upper body
Also preferred a spot for OHP
Everyone has their own preferences and quite frankly I'd rather do it my way than someone else's just because that's how they do it0 -
I apologize. I was trying to troubleshoot for you and that wasn't what you were asking for. I hope you enjoy your new workouts!! :flowerforyou:0

I made a simple post saying why I was stopping. Some people like a spotter, some dont.. personal preference like I said, I was merely responding. I wasnt being s**tty, but see how things can be read and perhaps taken out of context?0 -
it's very hard with the written word and no tone, expression etc and things can get lost in translation easily.
let's hug it out ladies and take it all out on those pesky weights0 -
