Good shin splint explanation video from runners world site

Hi, my name is Chris. I recently joined this group and have been "lurking" around a bit. Lots of good info here! (and not much BS, which is nice)
I started running a little under a year ago. I'm 42 and never ran even a mile before that in my entire life, no sports at all actually. Now I really LOVE to run!! In April I finished my first Half Marathon in 2:08, and my 5k time is getting speedier little by little too (last one a week ago was 24:45).
My next goal is to run a full marathon, but we'll see... I wish I could put in more training miles but I've been sidelined with shin splints a couple of times already training for the half (grrrrr...) so I need to get lots of rest between shorter runs at this point while I get that all sorted out. (yes, I am a classic "too far, too fast, too soon" example!)
Anyway... I'm not really looking for any advice right now, I just thought this was a good video and wanted to share it with you all:

Good descriptions/explanations, very clear.
It's worth checking out if you're having any kind of shin pain.
Happy running!!

I am sure you have heard this before, but the best thing you can do is go to your local running store and have them check you for the right shoe. When I first started running I used to get horrible shin splints, the only reason I would keep running was becuase I knew if I stopped they would get worse and I wouldn't be able to start again. Once I started wearing proper running shoes instead of just the random pair of Nikes that looked good at Foot Locker I had much better success with my running.
Good luck with your full0 -
Cool, yes, thanks! I definitely agree and have been getting my shoes from a running store... and working with a podiatrist and a trainer. I think I'm finally getting closer to a setup and training schedule that works for me. I'm very hopeful that I'll be able to try a full in October.0
