THE rules, I'm breaking them!

Many of my friends are quick to point out a rule violation or to call you out when #5 is needed according to The Velominati. http://www.velominati.com/the-rules/

I've broken several as those particular rules are stupid.. see #'. Well quite honestly the list of good rules is shorter and that list is #s 5, 9, 13, 43, 49, 53, 58, 59 (the first rule my children learned), 62, 65, 67 (I live in Central Kansas...Oh I know wind), 68, 72, 77, & 83. There are few others that I pay any mind to unless I am looking to deliberately break a stupid rule. -stupid rules should always be broken (unless of course, it's a law.)

Now I come to 54. No Aero Bars.. This rule will soon be broken as well. Due to a side-to-side whiplash injury in December of 2012, I have ulnar and median nerve damage in my left arm. This has caused huge problems off the bike and makes my hand go numb with in the first 2 miles. After some experimenting, I have found that It is easier to ride with my elbow crooked in on my handlebar.. For long rides I'm needing to change hand positions and this will give me another option.

the shunning may now begin so I know whose water bottles to put the Mira-lax in ;-)

Yeah, I refuse to submit to anyone or any rules regarding my facial hair (#50). Hands off my face, buddy! And as a red blooded US citizen I refuse to be forced into the metric system (#68). We won that right in 1776, don't tread on me! Further, I assume that at age 60 I am exempt from slamming my stem (#45), but if I'm not exempt, I will break it (the rule, not my stem). If refusal to submit to these rules makes me an outcast to certain cyclists, so be it! I can't stay in the big ring on climbs anyway (#90). ;)

Since I'm not sure of which rules you speak of, I know I'm breaking them. You should see the looks I get with my handlebars. I put a set of trekking handlebars on my touring bike ... love them ... they are now on my road bike and I bought another set to put on my tandem, been toying with putting them on my mountain bike. I also refuse to stand to climb, drop into granny and work my way up at a slow pace. My bike, my ride, and my day refuse to reduce my enjoyment to fit someone else's idea of what I should do.

Hai Guys. What's going on here anyways?

I break 7 all the time. All.
    The.
    Time.

It's my favorite loose baggy sleeveless jersey, and it's bright yellow.

Rules I break (besides the first three; which, are redundant.)

#7: The implication that sleeveless jerseys are verboten is asinine. Sleeveless jerseys are a must in hot, humid weather, Rule 7 should be: Sun's out, Guns out.

#25: I'm not sure this rule is useful or even desirable. I PAID 8900 for my car, and only 1400 for my most expensive bike. To follow this rule, means you overpaid for a bicycle or drive a crappy car.

#27: My socks are fine, thank you.

#34: I'm a commuter mostly. And I can't afford, nor WANT more than one pair of cycling shoes right now, so every bike gets SH-51 pedals.

#42: I would implore the author of this rule to 1) STFU and 2) Rule V.

#45: I don't understand this one, possibly conflicts with Rule #44

#90: Having issues with FD, otherwise, yeah, there are a few 20+% grades around here that need the small ring. And that I don;t weigh 135 lbs, either. So, yeah, even the 10% grades I'll need something.

Eh. Those rules are dumb. No need to take yourself too seriously. Most of us just do this for a hobby anyway.

    Rule 10 is my mantra.

And I follow 7 on my legs, but not my arms. In fact, the new thinner me is looking for casual shorts just short enough to show off my bike-made tan line.

There's only really one rule that matters...

the rest I sort of consider "guidelines"

I think you'll find that miles and feet is the English system.

Haven't a clue - I printed mine on a laser printer, then used a piece of "helicopter tape" to attach it to the bike... It's actually there to cover the Di2 cable port on the frame as I either lost the plug or the frame didn't come with one...

I thought those rules were funny! Then realized the guys putting them together and updating them probably don't think they're funny. All about priorities.
