Isaiah 58:13-14 New International Version (NIV)
13 “If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath
and from doing as you please on my holy day,
if you call the Sabbath a delight
and the LORD’s holy day honorable,
and if you honor it by not going your own way
and not doing as you please or speaking idle words,
14 then you will find your joy in the LORD,
and I will cause you to ride in triumph on the heights of the land
and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob.”
For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.
Sabbath: (shabbath), "a day of rest," from shabath "to cease to do to," "to rest"; the Hebrew verb shabbath, meaning "to rest from labour"; the seventh day of the week, set aside for rest and worship.
I don’t know, and am not here to argue, the exact day of the week that God intended everyone to observe as the Sabbath and am not going to discuss it as being right or wrong. This is to talk about the ‘true meaning’ of the word. I don’t believe God’s calendar looks like mine so I don’t know if His Sabbath day was our Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday or Friday. It doesn’t matter. What matters is that we take one day out of our seven consecutive days to rejoice in Him and praise Him for all He has done and to rest our bodies, minds, souls, spirits ~ commune as one with Him. Hopefully it isn't just one day per week that we praise & worship Him but all seven ~ just set aside one day as a rest day as His commanded. Afterall He rested after six full days of work and He knew we would need that too.
I know many people have to work on the traditionally observed days of Saturday and Sunday so give God one of the other seven – make that day your Sabbath day and keep it holy before the Lord.

I like to have my time with God every morning! I usually give Him at least 15 minutes, and sometimes 1 hour, depending on what is on my schedule!0

Melanie I agree we need to have some "God time' every day. But I also believe we need one day to truly rest our bodies as He intended and to devote praise & worship time more fully - and to be spiritually fed.0

Agreed. I do have praise and worship....morning, noon and night....all day long....everyday. Resting is the part I need to work on. I do not rest enough to be still.
I will be working on it though. Thank you for your posts.0
