help!! half marathon....in the rain

SOOO the forecast for my first half marathon this weekend does NOT look great
it looks like a high of 55, drizzle and showers - GROSS!!! i did a few practice runs in less than perfect weather and just purchased a waterproof case for my iphone (since i run with it for music and to track my progress)
ANY SUGGESTIONS would be amazing - my anxiety is at an all time high!!!

This past Saturday I ran a full in the rain for the first time Not ideal weather but if you prepare for it you'll be fine. I wore a hat to keep the water off my face (so glad I did that) and a jacket the entire time even though it wasn't too cold (kept my ipod dry) but don't overdress. I was so nervous last week watching the weather forecast because I had never ran one in the rain so I know how you're feeling but if it helps at all I actually ran my fastest one yet and beat my previous pr by 30 mins. I'm thinking the cooler, rainy weather over the heat helped a LOT! You won't feel as thirsty but make sure you're still stopping for water, powerade etc. Expect to get wet but just have fun with it and make the best of it I can promise you'll never forget this one! I actually was surprised with how much I enjoyed it! Wear good socks too to prevent blisters. Hope this helps a little!0

Running in the rain is really no big deal, now if the wind is blowing hard that's a whole different story...0

Ziplock works to keep your electronics dry. I would wear a hat and a thin base layer with a normal running shirt over it if is going to be cold.0

I ran a 50k about a month ago in pouring rain from start to finish. Lube up, especially if you are going to be wearing additional clothing that you are not used to such as weatherproof jackets or such. I had a disposable poncho which I got rid off after about 4 miles, it just got too hot because it didn't breathe. I wore my water-resistant jacket the whole time but chaffed under my arms.
I was also especially glad I had my Buff with me, I used it to keep the rain out of my ears as at times it was raining so hard the rain came down horizontally. I had ziplocks for my electrolytes and protein powder.
Make sure to pack a change of clothing so you can get dry as quickly as possible afterwards.
Also, if you are used to drinking make sure that you drink enough on the route as you might not be as thirsty as usual.0 -
I've started enjoying my rainy day runs already this summer as a wlecome relief from the heat and humidity.
I think everone's given great advice. HAT is key as is a thin lightweight breathable waterproof top layer. Also I prefer wearing fitted compression shorts rather then loose shorts, capris or pants as they have less fabric that can potentially rub or chafe.
Tech fabrics NO cotton (even for socks)
Dry clothes and wet wipes to get any mud or dirt off right after the race will feel amazing and help you from getting too cold after you stop moving. Don't forget to pack a dry pair of shoes and socks or comfortable slippers/sandals.

i have Fit Sok and i love them!!! so dry / non-cotton socks are covered. I don't have much that is waterproof but i do have a light-weight jacket i have run in before so at least i'm used to it. You all make good points - it will probably feel better to run in misty light rain then 80 degrees! i did that last summer for a 10k and thought i was going to pass out by mile 3!0

Don't let your nerves get you. That may cause your to run too fast at the beginning. Most important of all, have FUN!0
