I am off on my holidays next weekend and am currently on week 6 of SL.

There is no gym at our hotel and with a little research I have discovered there are no gyms in the town we are staying in either.

I was wondering what other people do when on holiday/travelling and you can't get your prescribed workout in?? Is it better to try and do something e.g. body weight exercises and plyo type circuits??

Also we are away for 2 weeks - when we get back should I deload like 10% and am I likely to have lost much strength in that time?

Apologies if this has been asked before x

You can do push-ups and chin-ups pretty much anywhere (the latter require finding a playground or a scaffold or similar). Otherwise, treat it as a rest week. Those are useful occasionally.
  • I find this hard to believe. Where are you located?

We are staying in a village in Turkey located in the mountains. The nearest larger town has a gym in one of the hotels - I emailed them about the possibility of getting a guest pass to use the gym but they said a one day pass is £12.50 (about $19 I think and i am too much of a cheap-skate to pay that) and they don't have any free weights!!

Unfortunately we booked this holiday way back last year before I discovered how much i enjoy picking up heavy things and putting them back down again. A least I know for next time that a hotel with a gym is high on my agenda!!

I think I will do what I can with push-ups and pull-ups etc and enjoy the rest time as suggested!! I just hope I don't lose too much strength while sunning myself on the beach :)

    Thanks x

If regular push-ups aren't enough, you could try handstand push-ups.

If your travelmate is within your working weight, try doing squats using him/her for resistance :)

    Haha. - I love this!!!

My husband is already getting a complex that I am getting closer to his bench press working weight - I can just imagine his poor man ego will be at rock bottom if I suggest squatting with him on my back...

Check out nerdfitness.com for some body weight exercise routines.

As mentioned, push-ups and chin-ups are great. You can also do squats, lunges, and glute bridges. Tabata intervals can be used for some cardio circuits. Jumping jacks, high knees, skaters, mountain climbers, burpees, etc. Also, not sure how much room you have in your hotel room or if you will have a computer, but you could also take a couple of DVD's
