MFP Keeping Me Sane

I have always detested logging what I eat. I find it tedious and boring. Logically I understand the necessity and the purpose of logging. In the past I have done half-hearted attempts to track. I realized today that my mindset is changing and logging is actually keeping me sane. My body has been in this weird cycle with the scale for over a month where I seem to gain and lose the same 3-6 pounds. If it wasn't for tracking what I eat, I would panic when the scale showed a 3 pound weight loss in a week. I know that it takes about 3500 calories to gain 1 pound. Because I'm tracking, I know that I am not eating more than 15,000 extra calories a week to warrent the gain. This keeps me from getting depressed and giving up. By logging, I know that I am on track with my calories. It can also point to the fact I need to drink more water or watch the amount of sodium I'm taking in.
I'm also still sane because of the support from you awesome ladies! :flowerforyou:

I agree....just keeping up with what is going in makes a huge difference, and being accountable to others does as well.0

While losing weight, MFP makes it possible to help you keep your goal in mind EVERY DAY and that it's important to be honest with YOURSELF for the main part, but it's also important to know that what you eat, every one else will see too! So that alone keeps me and my snacking to a minimum. lol
I know some days you just don't feel like doing it, but that day may be the one that makes you go up!! I feel better knowing that I'm doing something every day to make that scale go DOWN! lol Even if it doesn't move for a while, I know it will eventually!! lol
I think you're doing awesome and you're hanging in there! Make this the last time you'll ever have to "diet"! I'll be there too!0 -
I know exactly what you mean! I like the control of knowing exactly how many calories I've had too, especially when the scale does weird things. I had a random 1.2kg gain a few weeks ago (that's about 3 lbs) and KNEW it couldn't have been my eating. It took a week to get the scales to move down again, and then I held the exact same weight all week until this morning (yes I weigh daily).
Have you tried the android app for logging? I find it very quick and easy.0 -
I think everyone gets into a funk at some point in their journey. I've been at this 5 months now and just hit my funk over this past week/weekend. Up until then logging has not bothered me. In fact, I look forward to logging in the monring and seeing what kind of day everyone had etc. I esp. like logging when I have a weight loss to track. But I was in a mood and thinking over this past busy weekend that I just don't care.....I knew I didn't have calories left but wanted to snack on Saturday night. But, knowing that I needed to log everything I wanted was a huge help in not going crazy. Logging does keep me sane and it does keep me on track. Even while I was on vacation and ate whatever I wanted, it still helped me not to go really crazy that week with food.0

I do use the Android app. I don't think I could stick with logging if I didn't have it.0
