New to Firming It Up -- Loose tummy

Hey all,

I lost 70lb. over the course of a year, gained some back, and am down to my last 10~lb for weight loss. I'm noticing my tummy has a lot of loose skin from years of being obese. Am I able to firm this up to minimize the "looseness" of the skin, or is it only resolvable through surgery? I'd love to be able to wear a 2-piece for the first time in my life... ever....

I run and I've begun strength training through bodyweight exercises and the new kettlebells I just picked up. I'm a starving graduate student so a gym membership isn't in the cards for me.

Any and all tips would be greatly appreciated!

Are the lack of responses an indicator that people aren't sure? :(

The lack of any responses or posting on this Forum is a big clue to search elsewhere for information.

    Hi -

This group is not that active. You should go to the main forums and do a search... There have been lots of questions like this posted there. :)

It depends on the elasticity of your skin. If it is just somewhat loose, a good body cream and good control wear will help. It will not happen overnight but it will help. If it is very loose and bagging then only surgery will help.

I'd start with St. Ive's collagen lotion. I have loose skin on my tummy and I started using it and so far its the best cream I've used and it's not that expensive either. :)

I've been looking into tips on this too. I'm sure you've heard these before, but so far I hear this -

    - Drink lots of water.

    - Dry brushing and exfoliating.

    - Moisturizing.

    - Wraps.

    - Wearing control wear.

    - Exercise. Continue to lower body fat.

    - Not smoking.

    - Eating healthy. Foods high in antioxidants.

    - Certain vitamins/supplements.

    - It can take skin a couple years to tighten up after weight loss.

After gaining 80 pounds with my twins and two c-sections I'm working on this too.

I've tried to keep my weight loss even whish helped some (I think)
I'm doing a lot of walking. I'm afraid i'm to the point that the best thing will be Ab exercises. It's gotten a lot better over the last year.

Great tips, but may I ask what is dry brushing?

Here is an article about the benefits of dry body brushing. I love it. You might look into cupping as well. Good luck!! :)

Smoking cigarettes makes your stomach loose?! Please don't say that's true.
