1st post in this group, but I've been lurking for a bit. A bit of background is that the only running I ever did was in the USMC and that was only because I had to. Now, I still have the because I have to mentality, but it's more of a "because I have to be healthy" idea. I still equally despise it, but now I have goals to complete and the euphoria after reaching those goals is very nice. So today, for the first time in my life...........................EVER..................................Never even did in the military................................ WOO HOO!!! Ran my first full 10K training run today during my work lunch time.

63 minutes, so still some work to do as I want to be under an hour, but hey, it's a start! And I have until July 14th to get under that hour as that's my first "registered" 10K. Oh boy, what the hell am I doing..................eh, who cares, it's another goal, and I'm getting healthy in the process.

Congratulations! Remember, there's a difference between training and racing. For me, a six-mile training run is about 54 minutes, but my last 10K time was 48:32. Just being in a race setting changes everything. Keep up the training and best of luck to you!

Outstanding!! Keep up the training and your times will continue to increase as you get more miles under your feet. FYI my PR for the 10K is 61:23 after about 9 months of running....still trying to break the 60 minute mark which perhaps I would do if I ran more official races but alas my favorite running is with my partner, Haley the 75 pound German Shepherd..... Good luck in your coming event - most of all have fun!

Good to know on your PR and how to get there. I also do shorter runs with my partner...............who happens to be a 50lb border collie/lab mix FULL of energy (only a year old). I don't know who needs the run more, me or him, but boy do we both crash when it's all said and done. ;)

LOL. Haley and I just got back from a 7.1 mile run a little bit ago, I cut up some watermelon and took her and the rinds out to the compost, she spotted a deer in the back yard and off she went at full speed - way faster than I can run. And here I thought I was tiring her out on these runs.....I am going to have to rethink this.
