PCOS and high cholesterol?

I just had my year blood test to see if the Metformin was helping with my blood sugars and while my sugars came back within the healthy range, I got a phone call from my GP telling me to get on cholesterol meds. I'm wondering if high cholesterol is just another symptom of PCOS and if I lose more weight, that my cholesterol will regulate itself. I follow a moderately paleo diet and don't get a lot of red meat. I do love eggs though I have switched to egg beater whites and limit my whole egg intake to 2-3 a week. What do you all think?

I have read that both High Blood Preasure and Heigh Cholesterol can be symptoms of PCOS. But that each women is different. Have you checked out some of the PCOS websites there are and see if you can find some food ideas. Some of my favorite websites are PCOSDIVA.com. PCOSNutrition.com and ConqueryourPCOSnaturally.com

I'm starting to have high cholesterol also. I am trying to change my diet to stop it but I have a feeling that meds are in my future...0

High Cholesterol goes hand in hand with diabetes. PCOS is a metabolic syndrome that includes insulin resistance and eventually diabetes.
There are studies that indicate that cholesterol meds are not effective for women and can be harmful. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/martha-rosenberg/statins_b_1818370.html
Stop the low fat insanity. A high fat, moderate protein, low carb diet is very effective for LOWERING cholesterol.

Instead of cholesterol meds, try fish oil or krill oil. Statins do nothing for triglicerides which often are also a symptom of PCOS.0

For those with fish allergies, flaxseed oil works too. I started seeing measurable results with 2x1200 twice daily. You will have to experiment to see what works for you.

I take fish oil, because I too had slightly high cholesterol.
I haven't had another blood test so not sure if it's working, but I've read that it's a good way to lower your cholesterol.0
