Roof Rack/ Truck Rack or Hitch Rack

So last year I traded my Black Dodge Beast of a truck for a Honda Accord to save on gas. Before i threw my cannondale in the the bed of the truck and no worries. Now the front wheel comes off and i put the bike in the back seat. I travel for work often and try to take my bike with me. Im trying to figure out do I spend $200 for a hitch then get a hitch rack. Spend $400 for a roof rack with Bike attachment or just get a trunk rack?
The other part of this is that I have a 21' folding ladder that also travels with me, I put the back seat down and slide it through. This makes it very difficult to take my bike anywhere.

I have had a trunk rack and a hitch rack....and I far, far prefer the hitch rack. (I have lost a bike off of a trunk rack!).0

I used to use my '78 Chevy C10 for bike transport...but i like to eat after my bike rides, and I worrried about someone messing with or stealing my bike. I bought a 1996 Subaru Legacy Station WAgon last August. I can fold the back seats back, and put my whole bike in there without taking off the wheels, so no excuses not to ride. I also have a bike carrier and hitch that could fit two bikes on the back, but of course none of my friends are interested in even thinking about bike riding.0

Hitch racks are awesome but yeah, I can understand not wanting to pay for the hitch.0
