Race Across America aka RAAM

This best fits the "Plus" portion of the "Century Plus Cycling" of this category's title. RAAM starts for solo riders in less than 24 hrs. The toughest bike race in the world has riders from around the world gathering in California for tomorrow's start of their race to the East Coast. They say it makes the TDF look like a Sunday group ride. Anyone here follow this race? It isn't raced by the pros or their teams, just avid (and a bit crazy) cyclists from around the world. I use the videos made about this race to make myself stop feeling sorry for myself before century or brevet rides in the cold and rain.

One for the bucket list I think... The ride... not the race, but would like to clock up some serious miles in France, Spain and Italy before I venture across the pond.

The Georgia RBA for our Brevets has completed RAAM twice, on a fixie! It is amazing to hear his stories of the Race.

I want to follow RAAM this year because I am inspired to attempt an Elite PAC Tour one day and the Elite PAC Tour is considered the best training ride for RAAM.

They roll past our town each year, and I stand in awe...

It's on my bonkers cycling mate's bucket list but he coming to the realisation that he may never be able to fit in the training or organise the support crew for the event.

He completed a 24 hour prerequisite race last year and managed 440 miles.

    Madness - but admirable madness.

On a fixie?!? He must have legs as powerful as a rhinoceros. A tip of my hat that person!

The RAAM videos are awesome!! Deeply motivational, and inspiring! I am following a 'local' rider, on Strava, who is competing solo (his third go at it) this year.

The RAAM riders ride within 2 miles of my house, so I see some of them every year. Last year, I saw the old team and talked to one of the team riders for about 2 minutes. Very motivating guy, out riding in his 80's. Right now, I'm riding the Katy Trail across Missouri, and I've been seeing about 5 riders a day on MO state route 94.
