Hi All,
I went to my first Crossfit class on Saturday and loved it. I hurried in the am to get there early and made it through the entire workout in 27:42. Afterwards, I apparently went white then red and almost passed out. Coach brought me some Mt. Dew and a glucose tablet. I didn't eat anything that morning because I was scared I was going to lose it all -- should I eat something before I go?
My schedule will only allow for me to attend the Saturday morning class. I am running 2 miles a week M-TH. Is 1x a week a good start?
Thanks for any advice!

i work out in a fasted state (either at 7am or noon- fueled on black coffee
) but i also eat paleo and am primarily a "fat burner" so my blood sugar levels are always pretty low- if its a heavy day i take some bcaa's before/during.
if you run in a fasted state usually, maybe you got too into things and pushed yourself more than your body could handle at the time, or if you eat a snack before you run i would do that with cf too.0 -
It doesn't hurt to eat a little something before going, but I wouldn't eat for less than an hour before the class. Depending upon where you're located, sometimes with the heat it can make it worse. I'd be sure to drink plenty of water before and during to rule out dehydration.
Doesn't have to be a full meal, but something to get you going? Not sure if you're paleo or not, but sometimes good protein and fats really help fuel my workout (i.e. quality canned tuna and salmon with 1/2 avocado).0 -
Trying to slowly lean to paieo or primal. I can't decide (still researching and reading a lot). Thanks for the advice! I didn't eat or drink anything so I will be more prepared from now on!0

I go M-F @ 5am (yes our 5am crew is insane). Like booyainyoface I also workout fasted. 1) to optimize fat burning and 2) to not puke. However, I take 10g of BCAAs 15 minutes prior to the WOD, 10g immediately after the WOD, and 10g two hours after that. I find that it really boosts my energy levels during the WOD and helps recover afterward.
On M-W-F we have a strength training component prior to the WOD. On those days I may have a 12oz water-based whey shake (30g) with my second 10g of BCAAs just to feed the muscles. Then I don't eat until Noon. I practice IF (Intermittent Fasting) so my eating window is usually 12pm - 8/9pm.
But no matter what, I always consume plenty of water during a WOD. We are in Orlando, FL and our coaches like to keep our bodies guessing so the Box is never the same temperature. Some days the A/C is on and humidity is low and then there are days where the bay doors are open and the humidity is so high you can see the water vapor in the air. No matter what though, I can go through 2-3 24oz bottles of water per WOD.
haven't puked yet
Paleo/Primal it's all good...0
