PP weigh-in

2 days pp and I am down only 10 lbs. I'm not going lie, I was expecting a higher number, especially since my LO accounts for 8 of those lbs! My theory- 1) I'm really swollen. My dr says that it will get worse before it gets better. Awesome. 2) my boobs have doubled (at least) in size. I'm not touching my scale until Thursday. Hoping for a better number then. I feel really good though! Not in hardly any pain at all. I forgot that gazing down at a nursing infant can cause neck pain.

I am sure that it will fall off from you after the first week. So glad that LO is nursing well.:flowerforyou:0

Congrats on your new additon Rosy! And thanks for starting this thread, I was hoping there would be one! I too am interested to see what my initial drop in weight is... But thank you for the "warning" that it may not be as big as initially expect! I bet you are right on with your observation that swelling + milk coming in = inflated number at the moment. Good call on giving yourself a few days off the scale! You looked GORGEOUS and tiny in your 40+ week pic, I cannot imagine you having much trouble at all seeing the scale go all the way back to your starting weight. Enjoy nursing and cuddling today! Gah! This is getting me soooo excited!0

I am shocked you thought to weigh in at all - I was so tired after my daughter, haha! If you had fluids during labour they take time to flush out. The weight will go, mama, and congratulations!0

I'm so glad you and the baby are doing well! I think it's a good idea to wait at least a week to see what happens to your body, you are probably still loosing all kinds of fluids and getting re-balanced and used to breastfeeding if you are doing that Don't worry, you'll be down to your starting weight in no time at all. Just enjoy your little bundle of joy!0

10 lbs is A LOT of weight for how little you gained. I dropped 20 lbs in the week PP with my first two but I gained about double what you did
Congrats!!! If you can help it I would give it a good two weeks before weighing in again.0 -
I weighed in really quickly after my first and was gutted to find I had lost 8 pounds when she had weighed 7lb 11oz. I bet in a week's time another 5-10 will be gone and you will be back at PP weight in no time.0

When I first weighed in after I got home, two days postpartum, I found that I had lost less than my baby weighed! It started to come off pretty quickly afterwards, and at two weeks postpartum I had lost 20 pounds. Since then, which was two weeks ago, I have lost another seven pounds. With my first son, I lost about 25 pounds in the first two weeks, but I was also heavier than I was this time. I'm not sure if that had anything to do with anything.0

It's been two and a half weeks and I haven't been brave enough to weigh yet! Plus, my food intake has been crazy, I need to get on it though!0

Oh, I just wanted to clarify that this time I lost 20 lbs right off the bat, and the next (almost) 7 lbs was due to logging for the past 2.5 weeks. My initial postpartum loss (the first 20 lbs) probably actually took a week and a half, then my loss stalled for about a week, so I knew I'd have to work off the rest.
EBFing is great, though, because it adds about 500 calories back in that you get to eat0 -
Congratulations, Rosy! So excited for you and your little bundle. Like the others have said, I'm sure the weight will fall off in no time.0

I lost 20 lbs in the first 2 weeks, but I wanted to comment on the fluid retention it sounds like you have. I was so swollen to the point my feet looked like balloons that were going to pop anytime and it was hard to walk after my daughter was born. It took about 2 weeks for the feet and ankle swelling to go away, but now I still have swollen legs. I was on a drip IV for about 18 hours during the labor and delivery plus on pitocin ( sp?) which causes huge swelling. Just drink tons of water and it will come off eventually. I have no doubt that if I would have weighed 2 days pp I would have weighed more than my delivery weight.0

Don't even sweat it for now....everyone is different in how long it takes to get all that extra fluid out. WIth my first, I lost 30 lbs over night (very swollen). With my daughter, I actually weighed MORE after giving birth than before 2 days PP (again....even more swollen). Two and a half weeks after she was born, I weighed 33 pounds less. Just drink lots of water and get your feet elevated when you can. I am sure you will end up weighing less than before PG in a few weeks with the amount you gained! Congrats on your new bubs!0

I weighed today...3 weeks after baby was born and I'm only down 13.4 and still swollen :O(. Time to get back on the eating better, strength training and cardio schedule!0

BBeccaJean- I'm sorry you're still swollen! That's no fun at all!
1 week pp for me today- down 16 of 25 lbs gained. I'm interested to see if the loss continues. With my first 2 kids I held on to 5-10 lbs until I stopped breast feeding. I set my calories yesterday to lose 1/2 lb per week +500 and I went way over because I was so hungry. Not sure about netting 1400- might be too low.0 -
Almost 3 weeks pp I'm only down 14.1 out of 31 lbs gained. I've got a fairly positive body image, esp when compared to my first pregnancy, but I still don't really have any shorts/pants to wear because I'm still really WIDE (35" hips pre-pregnancy, 38" currently) I'm happy my ab muscles have come back together, no Diastasis Recti, I maintained muscle tone in my legs, and though my belly is a bit gooey with extra fat, loose skin, and new stretch marks, I still plan on wearing my bikini this summer! So there IS some good to go with the bad, but I don't think I'll feel better until I can work out again and really take control!
Hope all you ladies are doing well and enjoying your new babies!!0 -
I think I will post weekly post partum weigh ins here. Not really too worried about the weight coming off, just more as "collecting data" kind of thing
Pre-pregnancy weight: 114lbs
Total gain at 40 weeks/ delivery: +22lbs. Baby weighed 7lb 6oz
1 day post delivery: -9.5lb (12.5lb from goal)
1 week post delivery: -11 lb (11lb from goal)
Right now I am giving myself freedom to eat as many calories as I desire (it's been about 2000) and will re-evaluate calorie needs on a weekly basis. If the weight keeps coming off and my milk supply is good I will leave it alone. If I start gaining weight (like I did with my first baby!) I will cut back0 -
That's a great plan Heather! 11 lb left to loose is not bad at all, you might loose it within the next few weeks from breastfeeding and more fluid losses too. I have just been eating what I feel like but my appetite really has not increased yet.. I've been sleeping in until 10 am so I'm kind of missing lunch lol. My baby is feeding every 2 hours right now making me pretty tired. He gained 1 oz at his 5 day check in so he is definitely thriving
I had gained 22lb for my pregnancy and today I weighed in (1 week postpartum) and lost 21lb, so only 1lb from my pre-pregnancy weight. I've never had that before, always around 10lb gained with each baby, but this time I was really active until the 2nd month of being pregnant and then daily walks, and I ate much more healthily this time around with at least 100g of protein a day. I think that is what helped me not gain an excessive amount of weight. I actually fit into my jeans and they're actually a bit loose on me! I'm so glad all my hard work in loosing weight before getting pregnant is not lost0 -
I'm 8 weeks pp now and down 18 of 25 lbs. My waist has gone down 11 inches and hoping it will go down at least 6 more with some weight loss!0

You ladies are amazing!0

Hi Ladies. Love this 'topic' so I will also post here for my weight loss. I lost my 29lbs by week 3 without even trying. It just fell off so I was happy. I do want to lose an additional 20 to get to my goal weight but I AM keeping in mind that I am breastfeeding and need to EAT! My daily goal is 2,000 calories. I have my 6 week check up coming up so we will see how much activity I can do. Meh!0

That's great Amanda! I don't know how all that weight just melts off but I'm happy! Good luck with the 6 week checkup! I hope you are healing well.0 -
Weekly Weigh In! Baby girl is doing great, she is back up to birth weight, +1 oz. Loving life!
pre-pregnancy weight: 114 lbs. total gain at 40 weeks/delivery: +22 lbs. baby weighed 7 lb 6 oz
1 day post delivery: -9.5 lbs (12.5 lbs from goal)
1 week pp: -11 lbs (11 lbs from goal)
2 weeks pp: -13 lbs (9 lbs from goal)
Still eating about 2000 calories. 1500 for me, 500 for hungry baby girl
Got in two good, 30 minute walks, pushing the double stroller. Hoping to make it three or four this next week!
Probably won't start running until at least 4 weeks; stitches are still healing0 -
I agree you are just swollen, I was down 16 pounds a few days after, but then at 4 weeks pp I was down 20 pounds from my pre pregnancy weight, for a total of 36 pounds down from when I walked into the hospital to give birth! And, I am NOT breastfeeding. Give it a week or two to see where you land!0
