    The Prop 8 had two really bizarre alliances:
    ROBERTS, C. J., delivered the opinion of the Court, in which SCALIA, GINSBURG, BREYER, and KAGAN, JJ., joined. KENNEDY, J., filed a dissenting opinion, in which THOMAS, ALITO, and SOTOMAYOR, JJ., joined.

    Two conservatives and three liberals in the majority. Three conservatives and one liberal in the minority. Although I like the outcome, I find myself agreeing more with Kennedy's dissent on the only question they really decided: Whether anyone has standing when a state's governor and attorney-general refuse to defend an initiative.

    The U.S. Supreme Court invalidated Sec. 3 of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). That means that same-sex marriages in the 13 states that recognize them will also be recognized by the federal government.

    The U.S. Supreme Court also ruled that the people defending California's Prop 8 don't have the legal right to defend it. That means that in about a month, same-sex marriage will again be legal in California.

    This is how I felt when the marriage equality bill passed earlier this year in my country (nz)- I was in the debate room watching it, it was an amazing feeling :D
