Running with mosquitos question

I went for a run last night. Speed intervals. I went later because I don't like to run when it's hot. There where a lot of mosquitos, so I used bug spray. I didn't enjoy my run because of the smell of the bug spray. I am not allergic to it (at least I don't think I am), but sometimes was difficult to breath and I felt a little lightheaded.

If you run at night, how do you fight with mosquitos?

I hate running with mosquitoes. If I run in the evenings I stick to places with fewer of them (more city streets, less wooded trails). I handle the bug spray okay, but I think you could also try the clip-ons- I think they have less smell. Good luck!

It rained a lot here in the last couple of weeks, so there is no place with less mosquitos :)
I will have to look into clip-ons. Thanks

I run in the early morning and have the same situation. My answer is unscented and waterproof bug spray (in a pump bottle). You really cannot smell the unscented and I need the waterproof because I sweat so bad this time of year! We also have a lot of biting flies and the bug spray takes care of them, too.

The last thing I want is to have to wear something else because it is so hot and humid where I live (Mississippi) so the clip on's do not appeal to me due to that. But that is just my personal preference.

Whatever you do, make sure you use some form of protection. I took the kids for their checkups yesterday, and the doctor said that because of the risk of Lyme disease (from ticks), EEE, and West Nile, they are recommending DEET for kids, even little ones.

Maybe you could find some unscented? Another option would be to use some of the non-DEET stuff and apply some DEET to the "big" attack areas (back of neck, back of ears, back of legs, crook of arms).

Another suggestion, wear a hat that you've sprayed with bug spray. If you spray the hat, it might not smell as strongly, but you should still get some protection.

I run at the crack of dawn to avoid bugs and heat. I've never had a problem with mosquitos when I run but I think they may fog the park where I do most of my running.

I looked in a few stores for unscented bug spray and the don't have any.
    Where do you buy it?

I had to google "the crack of dawn " (English second language). It's a brilliant idea..... oh wait... I love my morning sleep. I go to bed very late, not intentionally, just happens

I usually get my "bug spray" at Walmart. They have "Off" and also store brand. I believe some pharmacies here carry it, too. I am not real crazy about other brands so I usually stick to "Off".
