A little confused over adding exercise

Hi I've had the UP a couple of weeks now and I'm enjoying using it, but I've not quite got my head round adding exercise.

What is the difference, for example if you go for a walk, between just counting the steps, using the ap to log a timed walk and using the button to the bracelet to mark the start of timed exercise? And then what about exercise like swimming and cycling, do you add this through Up or MFP?

Thanks for any insights
Angela

You can't see the step count for your walk unless you use the stopwatch. If you log a workout (with or without the stopwatch), you can adjust your effort level.

There is no swimming activity in UP, so you can't log a swimming workout. (The UP is only water resistant to 1 meter, so do not wear it in the water.) I've read on the Jawbone forums that some people put their band on their ankle when biking. According to this article, MFP recommends logging biking and swimming in MFP:

Thanks for taking the time to answer, I will experiment a little more with the timer and see what happens to the calorie count

I am new to UP just got mine today, and i sync'ed the accounts. I see the up category in my exercise but it doesn't adjust. Do i need to do something else? Do i still have to add walking, running, weight train, ect?

I just got mine a couple of days ago and haven't got a chance to try everything out yet... I got similar questions about exercises and also wonder whether it's better to log food with up or map?

Log alll food & drink in MFP. Enter most exercise, activity, workouts, etc, in UP (except for those in the article linked above, such as swimming).

UP does not send food to MFP, and MFP does not send exercise to UP.

Each time you sync your band, your UP exercise adjustment is updated.
