John 1:1-5

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

Take a moment and write down three observations of the verses. What strikes you? An observation is an observable fact from the Word.

    1. The Word and God are the same being. (Word was God)

    2. The Word and God are separate beings. (Word was with God)

    3. The darkness can not overcome the Light of the Word. The victory is His.
("The darkness has not overcome it", is a word for word translation of the text "the darkness comprehended it not." )

    INTERPRETATION:

What do you interpret these verses to mean for you today?

I interpret 'the Word' to mean "Jesus Christ." Christ was from the beginning, He was there when the World was created. he took part in its creation.
    His light is life.
We already know how this ends. LIGHT wins, God's light can not be overcome or defeated, nor can the life of his light be overcome.

    APPLY

Today, I apply _____________________________________________________ because it will _________________________ me.

Today I hold to the promise of his life and light being victorious because it will help me encourage others.

    OBSERVE:

Take a moment and write down three observations of the verses. What strikes you? An observation is an observable fact from the Word.

    1. The Word which means logos in Greek was Jesus Christ

    2. Everything was made by God.

    3. Jesus is the way to having life.

    INTERPRETATION:

What do you interpret these verses to mean for you today?
First, it represents Genesis in regards to the creation. God created everything. He alone. We did not exist on our own. There are so many controversial issues regarding the creation; however I can only stand on the Word and believe that it was God and He alone who created me.

In Jesus was life and life was the light of man. In John 14:6, it states, "Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me." Having Jesus is not only having eternal life but also it gives us the opportunity to allow our "light" show among men. Our lives then becomes a living testimony to indicate what having Christ in our lives is all about. Just as Christ is the light of the world; in Him we are to let that light shine through us.

    APPLY

Today, I apply the Word whole-heartedly in my life because it will give me the food that I need survive as a Christian.

    1. The Word existed at the beginning of time

    2. The Word was God

    3. The Word is life and light for us

    INTERPRETATION:

What do you interpret these verses to mean for you today?

God was at the beginning of time and by God's word all creation set in motion, for life comes from God. God is my light, although I may have difficulty understanding God, I can trust the power of the Creator's light to show me the way.

    APPLY

Today, I remind myself that the God, the Word, who set in motion all things in our universe, the creator of time, who was at the beginning of all things, is powerful enough to show me how I should spend my day, including my food choices and my exercise. I must listen with my heart and mind, so I implement what God shows me.

    PRAYER:

Thank you God, for giving me the chance to read your Word. Help me apply what I've learned to my life today and everyday. Equip me with your love and grace that I might bring honor to your name. I Jesus name, I pray. Amen.

    OBSERVE:

Take a moment and write down three observations of the verses. What strikes you? An observation is an observable fact from the Word.

    1. God has always been and will always be. He has no beginning or end. Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit are three in one and one in three. The Word being Jesus.

    2. Everything was made/created by God.

    3. As Christians we live a Godly life and therefore let our light so shine before men. Non-Christians see this light in us, and they can tell there is a difference about us, but they do not understand what that difference is exactly. Many people have been led to God by Christians allowing their Light to shine, and it drawing others to God. That is the whole reason for our being here.

    INTERPRETATION:

What do you interpret these verses to mean for you today?
These verses mean to me that God created everything and had a purpose for doing so. It was not for us to live in nice houses and drive fancy cars and have lots of toys to occupy our time. God's purpose from the beginning of time was for us to love Him and worship Him; to WANT to spend time with him on a daily basis. Since the fall of man it is our purpose in life to live a Godly life in front of others so that they can see the Light in us (God) and want what we have which will lead them to salvation, sooner or later.

    APPLY

Today, I apply living a Godly life in front of everybody I come across. I will help all that I can, even if it is my worst enemy. I will forgive and love as God forgives and loves others. He has set the example and I will follow His example today.
