Just curious what you opinions are.....no alcohol completely? Occasional? Once a day? Or a couple a night.
Such a controversial issue.......

I usually think it's safe to have a small one on occasion if I've got a few hours until the next feed. I know bits of everything I eat and drink pass into my breastmilk and I think once in a blue moon doesn't hurt. I wouldn't drink every day or even every week, but would have a small one on a special occasion without feeling guilty. Though I remember baby's next stool tends to turn a greenish colour if I've had a drink the night before, but they sleep a bit better temporarily!0

My son's pediatrician said 1-2 glasses of wine each day was fine. I don't drink that much, usually. Maybe 1-2 days out of the week. Also, even though the doctor said it's fine to have those drinks whenever, I usually wait until my son is down for the night, so I am 100% sure it's out of my system before the next time he nurses.0

I drank Guiness to boost my supply. It worked! I've had an occasional drink here and there (not a big drinker in general) and I don't pump or dump either because my drinks aren't strong.0

I can't stand Guiness (which makes my husband sad, he loves it, but, hey, more for him!), but I find that drinking any beer (I drink Stella) does boost my supply. They say it relaxes you and helps with the let down.0 -
I personally don't drink while breast feeding or while pregnant. It isn't worth it to me. I'm not a big drinker anyways.0

Yes, the beer totally helped me. But you can also buy yeast flakes instead of consuming alcohol.0 -

Same here. I don't think it's a bad thing necessarily, but I don't feel like having to calculate time to next feeding or pump and dump or anything.0 -
I did every once in a while. It was usually once she was down for the night or right after a feeding. I am not a huge drinker by any means (anymore!) and so I don't worry much about having one every now and again. I have read all of the studies and was quickly reassured that having a drink or two every once in a while while nursing is just not a big deal.
I will say I am looking forward to a ladies night out once this new baby is no longer nursing at night. It took my daughter 18 months to get to that point, but here is hoping it happens sooner this time!0 -

I have been told that 2 hr per drink wait is required brfore next feed, but otherwise ok. That being said i had msybe 3 drinks in the past 6 months.although it was evening after the baby was sleeping and next feed was 4 hr+ away i felt guilty each time . Just knowing that i am a bfing mom made it feel not ok for me. Also i got the evil eye from hubby, while he was enjoying his beer....0

My LC told me 2 glasses of wine a night was fine, which I didn't do but I did sometimes have a drink or two. She also told me to drink 2 glasses when I was trying to increase milk production and it did help0

I drink wine frequently, a couple times a week. I don't even worry about it. I still feed on demand, even after having 2-3 glasses, but my son is usually in bed anyway when I drink. There's no need to pump and dump or wait it out. Basically if your drunk then you shouldn't nurse0

I talked with the Dr. Newman, National expert in Breastfeeding in my country (Canada), and he has decades of experience in research and helping mothers with breastfeeding problems. He has a clinic in Toronto solely for training lactition consultants and helping women with all sorts of problems from low supply to lip/cheek ties to whatever you've never heard of!
He said that it's completely safe to have alcohol while breastfeeding. The only way it's unsafe is if you're co-sleeping, if alcohol makes you overly sleepy and makes you sleep deeper than normal then obviously you make sure you don't have anything to drink before going to bed.
If you're having 1 or 2 glasses of wine or 1 standard serving of whatever your drinking, don't stress about it.
In the end it's also personal choice, if you don't feel comfortable than don't do it.
