Day 8 Weekly Challenge

Hey everyone!

How'd we do on our distance challenge? My initial goal was 20 miles, but I bumped it up to 30 miles. I'm happy to report that I exceeded both goals. Between walking and time spent with Elli the elliptical, my short legs brought me 34 miles this week. This week also gave me bike envy. I'm considering getting a used one in the near future.

Yesterday was Weigh-in Day, but I didn't hear from anyone. How'd we do?

I was right about my sodium intake. I took it easy on the sodium yesterday, and weighed in 0.6 lbs lighter today.

I was thinking about a strength training challenge for this week. My exercise routine is very cardio heavy. Building muscle helps us to burn more calories throughout the day. I call that a win! I sometimes do some sporadic strength training exercises at home, but this week I'd like to challenge myself to do at least an hour of strength training. I plan to split that time up into 4 15 minute sessions. At home, I plan to do squats, push-ups, (either knee or wall, I'm not strong enough to do a standard push-up...yet) crunches, lunges, chair dips, arm raises, etc. If you're unsure of what to do, I've found that youtube is a great source to teach yourself about proper form. I also plan to hit the gym at least twice this week and have a go at the weight machines. My apartment complex has this deal in which residents who pay their rent on time consistently have a free gym membership. Question: I pay my rent on time, so why don't I go to the all the time? Answer: Because it's a ten minute drive, and I hate driving. That's simply unacceptable! Many people don't have the luxury of a gym membership, and it's shameful that I don't utilize mine.

What's your strength training goal for the week?

Have a great week!

Love and hugs,

Dani

    Hi Dani,

Very productive day for you....that is awesome :flowerforyou:

I weighed myself but didn't want to post it....but here goes....I'm in at 214 lbs.....:noway:

I have not been on my workout plan or my eating right plan for a few weeks. Almost a month. And this week is going to

be extremelly busy....I have my grandaughter(11 yrs. old) and her friend spending the night tonight. Then tomorrow I am taking them ice skating....she really wants me to skate....but I am too fat and out of shape....I am so sad about this

Then on Thursday, through all the rain I am taking a 8 hour drive to the middle of the state to pick up my grandson(15 yrs. old) for the week...
Friday we are going to the ice skating rink again so he can go with us(he was supposed to come down today but something came up).

Saturday we could possibly be under a tropical storm warning which really (excuse the language) sucks....I was going to take him snorkeling on Saturday

Your doing really good....I wish I could do 1/2 of what your doing. I belong to a gym and don't go anymore. I really used to like going.....They have a massage bed and a tanning bed....After my workouts I would enjoy a massage and then would use the tanning bed for about 15 minutes....I live in florida so you think I really wouldn't need to use it....but it's really cool.

I really wish I had a strength goal for this week....but I'm not even sure what that is.... :ohwell:

    Have a great day :drinker:

    Hey Dani and Everyone else,

Well I came up 20 miles short on my distance goal, got 60 miles in so not bad, and I did finish 30 DS I doubled up to finish that so had to cut back on my biking.

I love strength challenges, a great friend of mine that I don't get to see often came over to visit this weekend, and helped me develop a great workout I can do at home.

Mary go skating, don't put your life on hold just because we aren't in shape yet. Go out and live life. I sat on the sidelines for way too long because I told myself I couldn't do something, well if we tell ourselves we can't do it, then we can't. But if we tell ourselves we can usually we figure out a way. This weekend we had lots of company visiting, and they pushed my limits seriously. I live on the beach but hadn't worn a bathing suit or shorts in over 6 years, well this weekend I did both and they got me jet skiing twice. It was so much fun!

If you are looking for some good strength workouts fitnessblender.com has some great ones, and nerdfitness.com they do beginner and body weight only workouts.

Oh and my weigh in this week wasn't good 227 I went up a couple pounds thanks to the huge sodium filled stuff I was eating all eating, but it's all good it will be gone now that I'm back to eating normal.

    Have a great day!!

Mary, strength training is anything that builds muscle. Cardio is anything that raises your heart rate. For strength training at home, we could do squats, lunges, crunches, push-ups, bicep curls, and so on. When I was first learning how to incorporate strength training into my workouts, I relied heavily on youtube.com. I would search for things like "strength training for beginners", "strength training for women", "proper squat from", or "how to do a chair dip". Youtube is an amazing source of information. I haven't used any of the sites that Jen suggested, but I'm excited to check them out. I agree with Jen, go skating! You haven't achieved your goal yet. That doesn't mean you need to deprive yourself of the awesome experiences life has to offer. More importantly, do you want your granddaughter to look back and remember this as the time grandma drove her to ice skating or the time that she and grandma went ice skating together?

Jen, thanks for suggesting the sites. I can't wait to check them out! I'm proud of you for stepping outside of your comfort zone! I haven't worked my way up to shorts yet. That still sounds really scary to me, so I think you're super brave right now! I'm sure you'll lose the company weight in no time.
