Hello Autism Parents!!!

Hi! I'm Tina and I'm new here! I've got four daughters ages 25 down to 15. My 15 yr. old is autistic. She has come a LONG way since the days of crying 24/7! She's amazing! You know how it is, juggling autism and sibs, my marriage went out the window. I let myself go. It's time for me to take care of myself some. So let's do this! Friend me!

Hey, Tina! I have a 23-year-old son on the spectrum. Sounds like you deserve a medal and a hug. Feel free to friend me.
  • Hello. Just joined the group and only been on MFP for probably 18 days or so. My oldest daughter is 12 and has been diagnosed on the autistic spectrum. She's pretty high functioning though. She managed A and B honor roll in the classes that the other students take. They dont have her in any special education classes per se'. She just has trouble on the social side and has the typical echo like speech (she whispers a 2nd time whatever she says aloud the first time). She has the hand flapping /hand wringing etc. Every limit or box doctors put her in when she was first diagnosed she has proven them wrong time and time again. Even though she's socially awkward she is probably the most friendly outgoing kid you'll meet. (probably much better socially then I am), She is really just an amazing kid......I am so lucky to be her parent. I also have a 4 year old daughter who seems pretty normal and independent. She's a real character. Anyways, I'm rambling which is rare for me. I'm remarried.now for around five years. Have had a pretty fast paced life the last few years and managed to get myself heavier then I have ever been. Weighed in a 206 when i first started this site and am now down to 197. I'm 5/11 and am trying to get down to 150 ....although I'd probably be happy with 160. I'd rather not quit there and go back to my old ways. I'd like to keep it off. Want to be around a while for my kids. I've been holding pretty steady at 1350 calories for 18 days now. Was hard at first but I'm not feeling like I'm starving anymore. I need to start exercising soon but I hate it. Haven t worked out regularly for probably 5 years now so I'm pretty out of shape. My diary is open so if anyone has any pointers on diet or working out for an out of shape chubby guy, I'm all ears.
  • Friended! How's your son doing?
  • Hi! I have a 3 year old daughter on the Spectrum. She is nonverbal but working hard to change that. She has been in intensive therapies since she was 18 months old. (ABA, Speech, OT, Early Childhood Intervention Specialist, Special Education PreK) I love hearing stories like yours. Gives me so much hope for her future. Feel free to add me. I have a long ways to go and can use any advice anyone is willing to give.
