strange USTA match experience

Yesterday was my last match for my women's 18 and over USTA league. I was playing my nemesis at number 1 singles. This is my 3rd time against her this season, I lost the first two matches and she won everyone of her matches. She is definitely a step up from the rest of our 3.5 league. The first set I lost at 7-5, the second set was 2-2 and then I lost a long game with many deuces. On the changeover, she went over to her friend and got a can and drank it. Next changeover she was up and she got another can and her friend said I don't think that is a good idea. Thats when I noticed she was drinking beer. I thought WTF, how in your face is that. This match was not worth getting into a confrontation, but I will forfeit before I ever play this person again.
Fortunately, I don't think she is old enough for my 40 and over league, that started last week.
What would you have done?

OMG!! How old is this person?!? Sounds like a child to me. I probably would have said something, assuming alcohol isn't allowed on the facility you play at. Why on earth would someone drink beer during a match?? I had half a glass last year before a doubles final, and I felt disgusting. I have very low tolerance, but still, It sucked.
I would mention it to staff there, just so they are aware. But at the same time, you don't want to seem like a tattler. Tough situation! Very strange!0 -
I could not imagine drinking beer while playing tennis. But her beer consumption might have helped you win.
I have played league matches before and never had an opponent chug beer. If an opponent chugs beer against me and can beat me, they deserve to win.0 -
I have heard guys say they deliberately drink a beer, or . . m a y b e . . two, before important matches because it helps calm their nerves just a bit.
I have seen one or two guys do it. But, that was in an evening men's league, and we were playing doubles. It wasn't real serious. (At least, not to me) Just club-team stuff.
I don't drink anything ever, so I have never tried it.0 -
If I saw an opponent chug two cans a beer. Its time to change my game plan and just make them run side to side. Keep them running until they get sick. And while they're puking, I'll try to hide my sinister cheshire cat grin.
The poster has a good point. Some do drink to get loose and calm themselves down. That's a good "tell" (borrowing a poker term) that your opponent has shown; use it to your advantage.
However, if you ever play tennis in Atlanta; you have heard of ALTA (Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association.) It boasts to be the world's largest local organize tennis. In my opinion, it is more of a social team tennis than any other league. With that said, there is a lot (I do mean a lot) of beer drinking on and off the court. Most matches we play are on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Talk about drinking early in the day.
(As for age, most of the people we have played with and against are in their 30's through 50's; some older.)0 -
Whoa! I don't think I would have said anything to her but she'll start to get a rep and no one will want her as a team mate. You were obviously the more classy person that day. Congrats!0
