Immature gamers

Anyone read about the dev of COD Black Op's getting death threats because they balanced some messed up weapons?

I can't stand some younger players. Anyone under the age of 18 is automatically blocked and if they are under 25, I observed. There are some gamers my age who are just as immature as the 18 year old's but it's not often. I'm so sick of these brats making the rest of us look like lunatics. We are talking about fractions of seconds!!

I had a guy scream at the top of his lungs at me for a very long time because I missed with my charger(L4D2). I had people tell me they they were going to kill me and my family if I didn't play a battle ground their way(WoW). I rarely if ever play games online anymore because it only takes one mistake to get that text scrolling. Just go make a mistake in League of Legends one time and you will see what I am talking about.

Online gamers are a bunch of *kitten*. I try my best to be the exception and when I find people that think like I do I get them on my friend list regardless of their age. As a result my friend list never gets very big. I think I am a part of the minority not the majority.

Could stop playing with a mic unless you're with your clan. Works for me when playing FPS. Although games that need teamwork, this is kinda hard. If that's the case stick with clans/guildies.

Planetside 2 seems to have a more mature player base so you could give that a shot since it's F2P. Just join a good outfit and they tend to keep things fairly mature. It's also easy to mute people. The only problem I get is the constand team kills but that's probably my own fault for using a name like "The Messenger".

If you don't have a mic on L4D2 then you will be kicked from the group the second you get in to the group and sometimes having the mic won't even stop them. With LoL they will not vote to kick you for not using Ventrilo or something similar but the team you will end up with will spend more time arguing then they will playing. With WoW you are expected to have ventrilo or something similar or you just won't get in to the raid.

Also guilds and clans are typically wanting people that game more often then I do. The online environment is not meant for the casual gamer. That is part of the reason that always on feature was such a concern for me.

There are casual guilds/clans out there. The caveat being that since they don't have a lot of hardcore players, they rarely raid or warzone due to lack of gear. As for the rest of the games, I guess find some friends to play with regularly. This is why I liked dedicated servers. Finding an active one with great admins meant you were eventually playing with the same chill people regularly. The old school days of counter strike & team fortress.

I just can't believe the comments on twitter! And like he said, these are fractions of seconds! It's not ruining your life or the game!
  • This is why I miss when gaming was all about a group of people crammed in a room sharing the controllers to play each other. The internet has given everyone a voice, and that's backfired. Death threats, racial slurs and other hateful comments have become the norm with online games and I generally mute everyone and listen to music instead.

But death threats over the changes to how a game functions? And these people are just brushed off while that kid that made the League of Legends joke went to jail for what he did? Insanity!

The reason I keep quitting wow (before crawling back) is the community. I enjoy group content, but really hate the attitude of so many players. I constantly get death threats and rape comments, and I'm an over-sensitive person who finds it difficult to ignore. So I try and stay out of pugs. I hate that jerks keep me out of doing something I enjoy.

Personally, I always give people the benefit of the doubt. I've always said I would rather wipe with people who are trying, than kill bosses with people who yell and insult. I'd much rather have the fun experience than the shiny loot.

I don't think it's age related, it's all about mentality. Some of these 'kids' have no other hobbies outside of gaming and can get really 'passionate' about their game of choice. I tend to avoid games that have these kind of gamers though. Not only do I generally suck at them, but I don't have room for stress around a video game.

Honestly, over the years, and more recently even, the people who act immature and ridiculous in games have been people that are much OLDER. I've come to find that more often than not, those who have been helpful and kind - were kids! Craziness!

typically the ones who behave like that are addicted and generally don't do much else than game. Most are people who are outcasts in rl so they try to act they are big shots online kind of like the guy in that country song that sit at a computer in his moms basement and get better looking and richer every time he logs into a dating site. I tend to avoid those people as best I can and prefer to play on my own when I do play.

There was an article I read awhile about a study that found inappropriate behavior wasn't limited to the immature. Apparently the anonymity of online games brings out a dark said in average people. It wasn't uncommon to find that some of the worst PKs and griefers in MMO's were doctors, lawyers, or teachers in everyday life. These people found the chance to let out some stress in ways that are immoral in real life to be very appealing in a virtual world. Once you realize this, it makes it weird thinking the guy cursing you in game could be someone you'd probably take out for drinks IRL.

But I still think it's innappriate. And I've had to deal with BuzzCutPsycho and his cronies.

hahahah LoL and DOTA are the worst. i have put off getting an xbox because of the wonderful comments i have recieved about their fanbase primarily the FPS fanboys. and being a female??? WOW. that gets you some real nice ones coming out of the wood work.

i stick to games like minecraft and campaign modes now.

I don't fit in your age categories but I can't stand them either, I met some earlier today who decided to start mouthing off about me to my friends when I said no more than 2 word to them.. I'm all for making the consoles more kid friendly but there needs to be a line somewhere, it's getting stupid now.. The way these 14 year olds talk to people and as you said treat game developers is ridiculous..

Yep. I rarely play online anymore because of the constant harassment. I'm not a sensitive woman, but there's only so many rape comments I can handle before it just sucks the fun out of the entire experience.

If you're not in my guild/clan or on my friends list, you're SOL so far as voice chat with me goes. I'm too old to put up with some tween jacked up on Mountain Dew telling everyone off. I *VERY* rarely PUG...if it can't be done with guildmates, it's not worth doing.

I do like the direction some of the newer games are going. There's no chat at all...people "drop in" to your game and are for all intents and purposes like an NPC. Not all are in the Dark Souls mold either...some, like "Journey" on the PS3, integrated multiplayer in a very unique and enjoyable way. No real communication between players, nothing to identify either of you, you could either work together or go on your merry way. No way to grief or be a jackhole at all.
