Myfitnesspal while breastfeeding

Hello all. I have a 4 months old baby who I am breastfeeding. I lost 18 lbs the first 3 months, but the last 10 are hanging on for dear life. Has anyone had success doing myfitnesspal while breastfeeding? I am so nervous to lose my milk. I assume that you have to add an extra 500 calories to your intake to accommodate breastfeeding? Any info or encouragement would be great :-) Thanks, Robynn

The last 10lb is usually the supplies you need for breastfeeding, the stores your body keeps by just in case, plus the weight of the milk. You need to hold that last 10lb until you are done feeding, then it should fall off within a few weeks or you will whittle it away the longer you feed.0

I wouldn't press that last 10lbs! It will fall off soon enough I have had great results using MFP while breastfeeding. My little one is 4weeks. I have dropped my pregnancy weight. I still have huge boobs (I'm wearing 36 F's) and a little 'baby bump'. BUT I am eating well and eating A LOT. I have my profile set to lose .5lb a week but also eating back my exercise calories and my breastfeeding calories. Log Breastfeeding! You can find it under FOOD. It's 500 calories a day. I have milk a plenty Good luck.:flowerforyou:0

I have just recently weaned my daughter around 11 months. I lost about 60 lbs plus 15 more of pregnancy weight using myfitnesspal! I can vouch for it working0

Hi! I have a 1 year old. I started on MFP when she was about 3 months and have been going ever since. I have lost about 40 pounds since beginning on the site, but about 70 since having her. I had my cals set to about 2200-1800 while nursing exclusively and lost bout 1-2 pounds a week. I was also very overweight. There is an option to either add in nursing as an exercise or as food. It is possible, you just have to be careful and make sure your eating enough. Never go under at least 1800 cals while nursing. It is all about finding what works best for your body. Good luck to you and your little one!0

I have a 2 month old that I am breastfeeding and when I joined MFP, it set my calorie goal at 1500. After the first week I had to up it to 1800 because I was drying up a little and getting wayyy too hungry during the day. I'm much better now and I don't get upset if I go over because I just read even 1800 is on the low side of what you need. I also put breastfeeding as one of my 'cardio' options and probably underestimated that too at burning 300 calories a day.0

Thanks so much for the advice!! I didn't know that I could add breastfeeding to accommodate the calories I was burning. I normally burn a lot doing zumba and wasn't sure if I should subtract that much. I know the last 10 shouldn't be that big of a deal, but I just want to wear my clothes rather than buy new ones or wear yoga pants all the time. I notice I cannot go under 1800 either or my milk will vanish!! They say nursing helps us lose but I don't think that is the case for me. Thank you all for your tips and advice :-)0
