    120 miles
(going to get a bit of a late start due to a motorcycling trip, so cut back my projected goal a bit)

I'd like to ride my bike during the month of July, but so far, the weather isn't letting me!

My july cycling goal is to buy a road bike! But man, bikes are a lot more money than I remember them as a kid. So until I hit the loto, I'll have to settle for the stationary bike at the Y on Tuesdays an Thursdays.

If you aren't going to be racing, a hybrid that leans toward the road bike side (or "flat bar road bike" as some call them) may fit the bill. My Trek FX 7.2 ( http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/town/fitness/fx/7_2_fx# ) keeps up pretty well with the road bikes, and is about half the cost of a low-end road bike...

I never learned to ride a bike.

I do have an exercise bike....tried it last weekend but only lasted 5 minutes.

Another option for you is to buy used. Go to a bike shop and have them size you up and look on the Internet and/or bike store bulletin boards. There are lots of good deals out there.

I'm at 45 miles for the month so far, I have the RAIN ride next Saturday, my first attempt at that it is a 169 mile ride. If I live through that my goal for the month is to hit 500.

I'm hoping to do the RAIN ride next year after I have more cycling under my belt. Would love a recap of your experience.
