Chalk?

Is this something I should be using now, or is it more necessary at high weights? And this is a stupid question, but what is the consistency of it - is it just a powder?

My advice to you would be just to try it. Even at your current level. You'll really appreciate it when you get to heavy deadlifts.0

I love chalk and quite often after a session my lifting area looks like it had a cocaine party! You can get it as a powder or in a chalk ball that climbers use or liquid chalk if your gym doesn't allow powder chalk0

I lift in my basement, so I can get whatever chalk is the most recommended. :-) Thanks!0

ah cool look into getting a climbers chalk ball, they last ages0

Got some kids nearby that you could steal sidewalk chalk from? That's what I use. I just smear it on the part of my palm right next to the fingers.0

Oh wow, I found some chalk in the shed at work. I didn't think of using it in a badass way!! Cool. And it's rainbow coloured :bigsmile:0

Okay, another foolish question - do I reapply it before every set of every move, or only certain moves, or just once...? I know, stupid question, but I've only been lifting a week and a half!0

Once you start using it, you'll see how much is needed. You only need to rip your calluses off on a DL once to learn the lesson0 -
*shudder* Ouch.
Haven't started earning my callouses yet...0 -
I quit using gloves and switched to chalk. LOVE it.0

If you want mag carbonate chalk, there are cheaper places to buy it online:

This is the chalk I had - Magnesium Carbonate - http://www.amazon.com/Chalk-Weight-Lifting-Powerlifting-Gymnastics/dp/B0018IB7RS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376066224&sr=8-1&keywords=chalk+lifting
I lift at home so it is not a problem for me if it is messy.
Then, I discovered - Liquid Chalk - and this stuff is awesome. It is like getting spidey grip. It is expensive but, little goes a long way.
