Too much too soon

So in my excitement for 5x5 stronglifts I overdid it and am now paying the price. I thought I was okay doing some practice squats on thursday with the smith machine (the only thing available at the time) and since it was the first time I'd done squats without my knees hurting I kind of went overboard and did three sets of 20. No weight mind you but obv too much too soon because for the past two days my quads are like rocks and they hurt.

Also -- and here is a total DUMMY QUESTION. Am I supposed to increase the weight with each REP?

Did the best I could today and hope that by Monday I'll be ready to get back to it. Anyone else have this problem?

you increase the weight each workout. So each workout you do 5x5 at the same weight. If you don't make all the 5x5 with good form, then repeat the same weight next workout.

3 sets of 20 is going overboard. Quads hurting these past two days is good though. But do 5 sets of 5 next time, and if the weight feels easy so far, then that's so you can work on form before it gets heavy.

Everyone has problems with aching muscles after a workout.. it's normal. You may not get it after each workout and it doesn't mean you did anything wrong if you get it or if you don't.

if you have an android phone, there is an app called liftbig i think..(i searched for free app stronglift 5x5 and that one came up)
and it actually gives you thte workouts you need to do, the set number you have to do that day, and what weight you need to use..
it´s really easy it seems. i like it

I use lifting buddy on android :-)

Smith machine worries me though as it forces the bar path, and it isn't a natural movement. Can do more harm than good. I'm no expert though, so please do do some research especially if you are concerned about knees..
