zombies 5k graduate! what next?

Woohoo, I did it! Last night I ran 5k without stopping, though it took me 50 mins. My highlight was when I ran from zombies to the tune of Michael Jackson's Thriller. So now I'm ready for the normal zombies run. Do you think the 5k one will be OK, my general route is 4k and was mostly going to do 4k for a little bit with a longer weekend run?
What do you all do?

Congrats on the 5k graduation!!! Way to go! :)
I just started using the 5k app, but I also just finished Season 1 of the main app, so I think you should be good to go with where you are right now. :)

That's awesome. Congratulations. I started week 8 yesterday. Today on what I call a "fun run" (no app just music) I ran for 36min straight 2.5 miles non stop. This app is what has got me here & I am seriously stoked. I am wondering what the next phase is after the first app. Zombies run 2 I presume.

    Congratulations!

I was in the same boat as you. I progressed onto the full app and just finished season 1 recently and have started on season 2. It's very compelling! My normal run is now about 10K, still takes ages (1 hour 10 or so) and I have the missions set to last the hour rather than half an hour. I run longer at the weekends (I managed 15K today but I'm really feeling it now). I'm gradually getting faster but I'm not so worried about that, I'm just enjoying being out and finding out what's next for Abel! I think on the half hour setting missions would be fine for 4-5k.

    Cheers

    Paul.

So I didn't start using zombies run until after I was running for a year and had already run 2 half marathons. I like the story as a distraction so I'm not plotting out office spending or composing emails to my directors in my head as I run. So the regular zombies run app is very versatile and good for all levels of runners.

Since it is picking songs from your playlist, your mission may not last exactly 30 minutes, sometimes it's under (I've had it last only 25 minutes) so I recomend downloading the radio missions too. That way if your mission is over and you aren't done with your run yet your music will continue to play and you'll get some more Able chitchat.

And just as another piece of random info. I no longer bother with the zombie chases. I do like to use the app on my speed day because it draws my focus away from the pain, but I do my own intervals, usually I do more intervals than the app would prompt for and for a longer duration. But if Sam tells me to run, I still speed up a bit even if it isn't time.

Anyway, my point is, you can really use it however you want, but going with how fast you run, it's good to plan a distance that is about 30 mins for you wether that's 2.5 miles for you or 4 miles. Same if you set your mission to an hour you just don't want to arrive at your destination realizing the mission is going to continue for another five miles and you're stuck doing laps around your house.
  • Thanks, I went out again on the first mission and tried a new longer route which is about 5k (unsure as app said 5.5 then decided 4.8). Anyway, I was quite a bit faster I think because I knew I could do it but my new route is also slightly flatter and doesn't go through a dodgy underpass!

I got persuaded on Saturday night to do a 10k next May so that should keep me going over the winter but I think keeping on my current route for the next 3 weeks and then doing a park run is my first plan. After that, I'll do some intervals/tempo etc and slightly increase my distance ready for my 5k race in November.

I enjoyed it tonight, had a crappy day with my toddler and 5 yr old and running stopped me eating (or drinking wine). And I feel great and won't have a hangover!!
